Arrow Slow Axim -- try Microsoft.

I'm somewhat scared off by all the reports of the slow Dell Axim with MM2003. I don't own an Axim and I might go for a Toshiba with all the ports that the Axim has. (When you're not sure...buy Japanese ;) , you'll never go wrong. And that goes for the Panasonic SD Card.)

For the past few days, I've read about people complaining to a tech support group that obviously has been told to keep quiet about the whole matter. (Sad truth.)

Instead of calling Dell, why don't you call Microsoft and ask their tech support. Bring it to their attention so they, hopefully, put pressure on Dell (or at least understand that their rep is involved also).

Has anybody tried calling Microsoft?

Anybody have any suggestions?

I've already started looking at the Toshiba e740.

Microsoft only makes the OS. they cannot deal with other companies on how their product is handled on HP's, Toshiba's, Dell's PDAs. They all have different setting and drivers that are being used and it is up to the companies that produce the PDA's to make it work in their products and not Microsoft. that is why you have to call Dell about the software not working properly on the Axim's.

Dell's first PDA may be a pain but it is their first step into the PDA world and it really isn't too bad.

Years ago I worked for a Japanese auto manufacuturer. The department head, a normally mind manner gentleman, banned the use of all Japanese computer equipment, storage devices, etc due to quality issues. But that was sometimes ago.

Before you buy a Toshiba, read these threads.

Maybe in the 50s they didn't use their own stuff. But for as long as I remember they do and they always package their products together. Pop the hood of a Japanese automobile and you'll see parts from different Japanese auto part makers. The lights on the Land Cruiser are made by some company named Koito in Japan.

And, as always, their quality can't be beat.

I think ceej is a little peaved that I'm doing all this Axim bashing. But why am I going to plunk down $200 for something that not going to help me get stuff done quickly? You see the logic?

Oh, I'm not peeved at all. :) It just a matter of user's choice. I know a few of my friends do not like the Axim and rather stick to their Palms, HP/Compaq iPaqs, and Handsprings.
As a matter of fact, my wife has the Toshiba e310. Even though there is no chance of upgrading it, she really has no need to. It hasn't failed here these few years she has had it.
