Yes, you should be able to. But, we won't start that here....

No, I know what you meant... fast, eh?

Hey, I *didn't* upgrade! I just meant can't go back to using anything slower than 472/236. If I upgrade to 2003, and *still* have to use 3rd party apps just to get a PXBus speed of 200 (much less 236), then the upgrade is not a priority.

As far as speed, I was referring to the LMN settings putting you at 472/236. This is the 100 MHZ PXBus thread, right? :D WM2003 is very fast though...

Hey, if the only thing that PPC2003 has to offer is the "Maximum Performance" (as far as speed is concerned), then why upgrade ? PHM or XCPUScalar work just fine, and they offer me even more options and speed than the 400/200 ;)

Actually PC2003 is much faster than PC2002. Just by upgradng the OS you will get an additional bump in speed.

Basic with PPC2003
I got a basic ax in early July with the PPC 2003 on it from Dell. There isn't a max performance setting in the processor control settings. Just Normal, Power Save, and Auto. I have just read through all of these posts. Good detective work JmE! Opened my mind to o/c'ing. Going to try the XCPUScalar like Snathanb. My processor is the PXA255 with ROM ver A04. The PPC2003 has different network settings than the 2002, from what I have seen. Let you know how it turns out this evening when I get home. I know that you can o/c Intel's Celerons to some pretty high speeds with no consequences.

Does this mean the Axim Basic is only running 99mhz bus by default?

Are there any multiplier settins for a 300mhz CPU and 200mhz bus? I paid for a new pxa255 Axim instead of getting a refurb for the 200mhz bus (which I figured was already implemented in the Axim when I got it). That makes me angry that Dell cheated me out of my 200mhz bus that I paid for.

The LMN values of 27,4,1 which is what the Maximum Performance button seems to do would run the PXA255 at 398 MHZ (400) with a PXBus of 199 MHZ (200). Since they bill the basic Axim as 300 MHZ and the advanced at 400 MHZ, that would make sense that it doesn't have an option for LMN of 27,4,1.
The 300 MHZ Axim may actually run the LMN values for a PXBus of 199 MHZ though. I don't have a 300 MHZ model here to try. Did anyone try with like XScsaleCTRL to see if the 300 MHZ Axim can do the LMN value of 27,4,1? I don't suspect that it will, but curious...

I tried using Advanced XScale control. It runs, but crashes when I use PocketSNES. It also feels hotter than usual on those settings.

I think that answers the question... Those LMN values are not OC numbers but stock Intel numbers for the PXA255.
I do not know of any other settings that run the PXBus at 199 MHZ.
The PXA255 you have has other advantages over a PXA250, but I agree, I would be a little disgruntled about not being able to do a PXBus of 199 MHZ.
I only run min in the high bus mode for experimenting. I don't really use it like that day to day. You may not want to lose too much sleep over it.
I hope some of this helps you.

Basically I want to know.....Will not having the Bus run at 199mhz affect a Axim Basic gaming and Movie wise. I want to get the Basic because then I can get some access with it.....like an extra battery and accidental damage plan.

I got XCPUScalar on my basic PPC 2003 running at 400Mhz. The highest setting hung it (472 Mhz), but I did a hard reset and it purrs at 400. Also the wireless sync started to work when I did a hard reset. The only thing I wish it had was more memory.

Running at 199MHz FSB will have a huge impact on movie playing performance. For games, it depends : "small" games (Tetris, Slurp...) will run fine without the bus, but the more demanding games (AoE, Interstellar Flames, Snails...) are a lot smoother with the fastest bus.
