Hey folks - my Axim is dead, deceased, pushing up the daisies! She was the victim of a failed flash attempt and now I am faced with the beautiful blue Dell screen and nothing else. Hard resets haven't revived her, nor have my attempts at various button combinations.
On the old iPaqs there was the lovely parrot that you could access if you hosed a flash update and you could revive your ipaq via a compact flash card with a rom image on it. Is anyone aware of any similar trick with the Axim?
Thanks, and i'd appreciate it if folks would refrain from lecturing me about flashing roms that shouldn't be flashed. :D
I can't help the problem but your post did remind me of a wonderfully funny Monty Python skit with a dead parrot! You have an ex-Axim.
Just one thing. Did you try to re-flash it? If there's nothing in the ROM, it might work. Nothing to lose, anyway. Get the A03 or A02 flash so that what you are putting on is a Dell product.
Hey Jake - glad you caught the allusion to Monty Python :D
I tried to reflash it but it's not recognized in the cradle by the flash utility. I was hoping that there was a built-in rescue utility like the ipaqs had for getting a new rom off of the cf card.
I've been pondering the problem and began to wonder if the BIOS in the axim has a boot order like Window or DOS (ie FLOPPY, HDD, CDROM). The BIOS has to start the system and eventually load the ROM image. Is there any way to get to that?

This Axim won't be revived by the likes of me. It will take the mysterious and glorious hands of Michael Dell to do that work - God bless him! :)
I should be getting another today or tomorrow.
Are they actually sending you a replacement? if they are sending you a replacement that has to be the lowest of all lows. Dell should have no obligation to fix an Axim you fried trying to modify their patch for use on your PPC2002 Axim....even if you did order the CD. You tried it, you paid the price. Hope they aren't sending you one for free.

He has warranty on it, as long as they don't have to replace any parts I think they should give him a fresh rom. Warranties should cover owner-ignorance to a point.

Yes, but should "owner-ignorance" be covered by Dell....if that ignorance was the owner trying to illegally install a Dell ROM upgrade by modifying it??
