Expansion Card Types Question

I was curious if the Ax's SD slot can read Multi Media Cards. I've been reading about the expansion cards for other devices like digital cameras and MP3 players that use either type of card, curious to find out if the AX can read both.
Also, does the Ax only read CF type 2? For some reason I found a few type 1 cards in a box at work. I don't have my Ax with me, so I don't have a way to test, but if these cards will work, I'll buy them from my company.
Thanks

Turtle,

Yes, MMC. CF 1 or 2 is fine.

MMC is "forward compatible" with SD, SD is not "backward compatible" with MMC.

An SD card is just like an MMC card, except thicker, with 9 pins instead of 6 or whatever, with a write-protection lock, and with some weird setup that makes it safer for copyrighted files. or something.
2x SimpleTech Bonzai USB2 mini-drive/SD card reader
2x Lexar 1GB (Non-Hi Speed!) SD (USA): write speed = 5.5MB/sec (37.5X) Space avail. (formatted) = 975MB
1x SimpleTech 512MB SD (Taiwan?): write speed = 5.3MB/sec (36.4X)...... Space avail. (formatted) = 489MB
RMA'd: SimpleTech 512MB SD (Japan): write speed = 3.9MB/sec (26.6X)... Space avail. (formatted) = 491MB
Sold: Viking 256MB SD (Taiwan): write speed = 1.5MB/sec (10.2X)........... Space avail. (formatted) = 241MB
Sold: Viking 128MB SD (Japan): write speed = 1.5MB/sec (10.2X)............. Space avail. (formatted) = 120MB

I am actually glad I went with the MMC instead of SD, as I have had no problems with my 128 MB MMC.

Try running a benchmark. I used to use MMC but the Lexar SD is staggeringly faster. AFAIK it's only Scamdisk SDs that have been problematic. And those OEMd from Scamdisk.

SD is also potentially faster. 10Mb/s vs 2.5Mb/s

SDIO is Secure Digital Input Output, basically things like SD digital camers, SD WiFi, and accessories like that.

Currently the axim supports ONLY memory in its SD slot
PDA: X51v - ROM A12
Case: Stock dell sleeve case
Memory: 2GB OCZ SD Card, 512MB Kingston CF card

Accessories:

Holux 236 Bluetooth GPS

One of the reasons the axim is cheaper than other PDAs of similar design in the market.
