Mad Appointment Reminder kills battery!

Hi Guys,

Has anyone out there experienced a problem with appointment reminders killing the battery?

My Axim was fully charged and in its case for 3 days and I opened it up today to a dead battery and a nearly dead backup battery. A tech at Dell told me that an unacknowledged appointment will blink the power button LED until the unit is dead. Has anyone else experienced this?

Doesn't this seem link an idiotic feature? Is there a way to keep a reminder on an appointment, but turn off the LED notification?

Thanks.

Go to settings, sounds and notifications, select the notification tab at the bottom. On that screen, use the pull down menu to select reminders, unclick the "flash light" option.

I think that should do it.

Hey what rom update do you have. If its not a03 then upgrade to it. I think that they fixed that in an upgrade somewhere. I used to have that problem but then it went away. I don't know what I did to rid myself of it. Hope that helps. Otherwise I bet there is a third party software that will stop the power led from blinking.

I think that is what I was talking about in my first post. But that might be the screen that you stop from flashing not the led light at the top. I just had my lunch reminder come up and my led flashes even though i have that turned off. hmmmm..... I guess that is something they need to fix. I do remember removing reminders that I always missed out of my ppc because they would drain the battery.

Thanks Guys!

I have the dreaded PPC 2003 Version 4.20.1081 (Build 13100)
It is slow sometimes, but I can live with it until the tested and debugged patch is released.

The flash light option was turned on for notifications, but limited to 10 minutes. I really don't see how this could have killed it. I'll have to keep an eye on it now and make sure my battery is holding up properly.

You may want to set your Axim so the buttons on the front bottom do not turn on the unit. Both me and a friend of mine had a similar problem. We think the unit was getting turned on while in the case and in our computer bags. Anthing pushing the buttons will turn it on. Once it turned that off things got better.

However later mine died and the backup battery died with it. It got worse such that my unit would only work with the charger. Dell replaced the main battery under warranty and that part works OK now. I am having a lot of grief with Activesync, but that is a different topic.

I have not had a battery problem since getting the new battery and disabling the power on feature for the shorcut buttons.

I had considered this, but the unit was undisturbed on my desk while I was out of town. It's really a mystery since my LED was set to blink for only 10 minutes for an appointment reminder. I'm just going to have to keep a close eye on it. Dell has already said that if it happens again, they will replace the battery.

Thanks.
