Fellow Aximites,

Love the forum. Loads of good stuff...I use Windex on my PC CRT occasionally but who would have thought its use on the Axim screen would be instant destruction.

But to the subject. I bought the WCF12 and my kid popped it into the AXIM before I had a chance to load the software. Interestingly the Axim popped up a screen correctly identifying the device on this one occasion. When I tried loading the driver from the CD-ROM, it installs on my desktop OK, but I always get a blank screen where it should indicate a valid program is about to be installed on the Pocket PC.

I've tried everything imaginable...hard resets, downloading the latest drivers from Linksys, etc. The Axim never recognizes the card and always prompts me to input the driver name.

Is this thing toast now or do any of you know of a work around method of installing?

- Extract the Linksys driver on desktop
- find the cab file
- copy it onto your Axim using AS
- click on the cab file on ur Ax

This procedure can be used whenever programs doesn't install correctly.

Thanks for the suggestion Fritz,

Unfortunately the two cab files (data1.cab and data2.cab) are both reported by the Axim as invalid install files.

I have installed other apps using the method you suggest, so I know by design this method does work.

Hmm...the Linksys setup.exe always fails to list the wifi device as an installable program. I think its time to return the WCF12 and though my home system is all Linksys...Wireless Router/AP (BEFW11S4, v2), cable modem and Wireless USB for my laptop, I'm seriously considering a different brand, perhaps a Socketcom or Dlink.

Linksys WEB support is really poor as usual...shame on them.

Fritz and anyone else with this problem,

Your suggestion got me thinking about these cab file that failed to load onto the Axim. It turns out that the correctly formated cab file was being created into the Linksys folder on my desktop PC after running the setup program but was not transferred to the Axim for some reason.

I did as you suggested and copied the new cab file (not the one on the CD), then just clicked on it and voila! the WCF12 setup just fine and within a couple of minutes I was connected using all the defaults and able to get an internet connection wirelessly.

Many thanks for steering me in the right direction. This is so sweet and makes the Axim so much more powerful.

:D

couldn't agree more.

My next challenge was to get rid of the USB cradle/cable connection. It was a pretty easy process to ActiveSync wirelessly. All you need to know is your host name for the network computer you want to synch with and the IP address as well.

My Linksys router/ap always assigns the same IP for my home network boxes, so it is essentially a static IP locally and the wireless speed is far superior to the USB.

Another messy cable bites the dust. Maybe my dream PC of the future isn't too far away. That's one with no wires, including the power connections.
