Can Dell really be that stupid?!?

Sometimes I wonder how stupid can you get?

The Axim has a couple of features that were *cough* not so well designed. One good example is the CF slot cover. After removing it a couple of times, the tiny noses at the sides of the cover are destined to break. They are like predetermined breaking points.
But it gets even better: Dell doesn't even has spare parts!!

I called the Dell Service here in Germany the other day, and the guy told me, that there are no spare parts, and that this is not a case of warranty!!

Reason is simple: If they would admit that this falls under warranty then they would have to replace the whole Axim!! Because of a teeny weeny plastic thingy that broke. Can you believe that?!

This goes to my lawyer, of course. And I will definitely won't buy another Dell product.

I take my CF cover off at least 2 times a day for the last 6 months and haven't broken anything yet.

Ummm....I'm with dtgrdn on this one....I've never had a problem with my CF cover and it's constantly going in and out of that thing. I just popped mine out to take a look at it---no sign of wear and tear, no stress, nothing. Actually, a pretty nice thick piece of plastic now that I look at it.

Duuuh ....

Well, AxiMonkey, if you cannot see the tiny noses at the sides then you need glasses.

But maybe Dell changed the design and sells the crappy ones in other countries than the US.
My Axim was so crappy manufactured that it broke. I always had trouble getting it back in, it always resisted. Hard to describe in English. So you guys seem to be lucky (except AxiMonkey who seems to be blind).

The point stands: It's a warranty case. Dell has no spare parts. I'm gonna sue them.

Pardon me for asking but who the hell exactly do you think you are??

Your post count shows you to be a relatively new and inactive member of this community---I really don't see it as a good idea to come around here and get an attitude with someone who was just trying to provide you with some input.

In all honesty, I hope you do sue Dell...it would be a pleasure to testify for them against you at this point....to sit up there and say "uhhh, yeah....this guy has no idea what the hell he's talking about." Because, it's quite obvious that you don't.

I'd love for you to become a productive member of the site but really....and attitude like that with another member is going to get you absolutely nowhere.

Atticus, did you try calling someone else or even
asking around ? I have heard people getting spare
parts, such as the lil rubber feet on the back of the axim,
and there was even talk of a CF cover replacement as
well. I got the phone # with extension of the depart
to get spare parts, .. I'll look it up and post i back here
as soon as I find it..

Well I have to agree with AxiMonkey on both issues. I just looked at mine and really can't see how the pieces can get broken off unless you are either clumsy or don't know how to handle it. I suppose if you put it in your pocket or something then it might break but I haven't had a problem.

As for the second part I think you owe AxiMonkey an apology for your comments!

I know that they introduced the rubber feet as spare parts. But not the cover. If you search in this forum you'll find plenty of posts of people who lost the cover, but cannot get a replacement.

And here is another not to AxiMonkey: Take out the cover while your Axim lies face up in front of you. Now look at the left and the right side. There'll you see - hopefully two little noses. I tried to measure the width of the arm under the nose. It's less than a millimeter.

So do you see it?

Quote: "pretty nice thick piece of plastic".

Is it thick? Is that what you call "thick"?!? Less than a millimeter?!? Do you even see the parts I'm talking about?
Hard to admit, isn't it?

Q.e.d., son! Now, who doesn't know what he's talking about?!?

And another one:

Quote: "shows you to be a relatively new and inactive member"

Well, I joined Aximsite March 2nd. You did on May 24th. Oh boy, you are really something!

If your other 384 posts are quality-wise like your postings here, then this shows that quantity isn't everything.

I spent some time in the German army. The radio guys there had a saying: "Erst denken, dann drücken, dann sprechen." Roughly: "First think, then push (the button), then speak."

How about it?

Oh, and that one:

Quote: "who was just trying to provide you with some input"

Don't get me started! If your understanding of input is the pure denial that there are two tiny, thin noses that hold the cover in the slot, then we both must live in different realities.
No! You come here, and try to tell (an older member of this site) basically that he's doesn't know what he's talking about while I hold the crappy piece of plastic in my very hand.
Who do you think YOU are?

Wow!

All this over a piece of plastic that may or may not be poorly designed and may or may not eventually break!

Some people need to get a life!

By the way, how much is your lawyer going to charge you to sue Dell over a piece of plastic that hasn't even broken yet? Personally, I would save the attorney fees, buy a Type II CF Memory card (that fills the slot nicely) and throw away the offending piece of plastic!

That piece of advice is free!

Why don't you just sell it and buy an Ipaq? You have some serious issues if you think you can talk to other members the way you do!!

Atticus,

First,
I had the same troulbe as you with the "noses". One broke off within the first couple months of use. I use a bluetooth card and remove the cover several times a day. However, I was able to get a replacement from Dell for it, as a matter of fact along with a spare pair of rubber feet. Just took a little effort to get the "tech" on the phone to understand what I was asking for.

Second,
you need to chill. If you attacked the Dell tech the way you did this group, it's no wonder that there was no part available to you. Who would want to listen long enough to help you. as for the "push button" part. God, I hope the psychology screening for the Army kept you in kitchen and not out with a weapon. Fingers driven by minds and tempers like yours are the reason we all live in fear. It's just a frelling piece of plastic, not the end of the world. :hide:

Atticus,

Wow! Mister Angrypants has just entered the building...

Remember--If you ask--folks will answer--when you answer back in a rude way--folks will not want to answer (help you) at all.

Do as you like, but if you really don't like the Axim or the board, then maybe you should find a different PPC and board.

Bad air out...good air in...lather, rinse, repeat...
