I think I've had enough of my d-pad

Ok, here's the skinny. I recieved my ax as a Christmas gift back in Dec. At the time, I had some gripes like everyone else concerning the d-pad, kinda mushy, but still somewhat responsive. I've been avoiding sending it back, because I thought I could just stick it out. However, the up button has recently become junk. It seems like I need to almost shift the d-pad towards the screen and then push into the gap area between the pad and the axim case to get an up action. This has gotten really annoying really fast. So, I'm thinking of calling Dell to finally get it replaced, but I am wondering what I should expect from the refurb in terms of the d-pad and general axim condition. Can people just post what their experience has been?

I had mine replaced in April and got a new PXA255.

You should expect a refurb but you never know..

You know i dont know if its me, i think the d pad sucks, you have to push it all the way down and most of the time i use it i accidentally go down by pressing right or i end up pressing both, i just dont think you should have to press it down that far and its a bit hard to press the select button on it

It was my understanding if you wanted a full refund, you needed to return it within the 30 day period. But, with the standard purchase, you get one year of product warranty, and I would think this would fall under the product warranty. Am I correct in this thinking?

I don't remember who it was but somebody on this board modded thier D-pad. Apparently it worked pretty good after that. A few searches should be able to find the right thread. If you decide to do that remember that it voids your warranty.

How about just post here if you find something, and I'll do the same?

I was outside of the 30 days. Just lucked out and got a new one. It is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the original and seems ok but to be honest it's not something I use often..

Just received my replacement ( refurb ) for a Christmas present Axim that I had had enough of the mushy d-pad. Much better action. Almost done setting it up. Came with A02, installed A03. Did a clean install, didn't back anything up. As a bonus, it is a PXA255!
