Worm? Do you have it?

I was wanting to know if anyone got affected from this new Worm that came out recently. My boss at home got it yesterday. He runs Windows 2000. I have Windows XP and I have recently moved so I havent had a chance to turn it on. I also have a question, if I like others running Windows 2000 or XP have their Axim synced to their computer, can the Axim catch this virus? If yes, how and if no, why not? Thanks.

none of the systems at my house got it. None of the office machines got it. If you've been to windows update in the last 3 weeks you should be fine.

I don't think the Ax can get it. it's a DCOM RPC thing. Does the Ax involve that? I'm not really sure.

The worm does not affect the Axim directly, but it could be a carrier moving it to another system depending on what you carry on your axim.

But by itself, the Pocket PC cannot be infected.

no, it cant.

to abort the shutdown in windows, click start, run, shutdown -a

I dont know if that will work in anything other then win2k/XP.

Then just get the fix off windows update . If it pops up again do the same thing

I've been watching it try to penetrate the firewall I have setup at work. It can't get thru but keeps trying every 2-5 minutes from different IP addresses. By the looks of it there are alot of infected PC's out there.

We got it on our XP Professional computer. I emailed Dell with a quick list of symptoms (it had to be quick because it kept shutting down by itself). They responded with an automated message with the link for the fix. I updated windows (had a couple I had not done) and then installed the link. No more problems.

do you still have a nice set of removal instructions? I can remove it, but rather than try to come up with a nice list for other people, it would be nice to have one that's already been made. I've tried explaining it to two people today and i'd love an emailed copy of it. if ya got it, i'd appreciate it if you'd send it to me at:

My mother called yesterday morning at about 10AM asking me if I knew how to remove it. At that point, I wasn't even sure what she was talking about....then I read up on it to find out all the details. But she and a friend of her's both had the worm on their computers.

I am not affect (thank googness). I too have autoupdate scheduled to download and install new updates/patches from Microsoft. Plus I am running a Redhat Linux firewall as well as filtering on my Cable/DSL router. I have seen attempts to penetrate but it couldn't get through. Just for further security, I have Zonealarm Pro on my XP box and I enabled it as soon as I heard about the threat.
