Did you try a soft reset? That very often fixes things.

It shouldn't matter, but what brand CF card do you have?

You know, I have the same problem occasionally with my Linksys Wireless 802.11b CF card. It asks me to identify the card in the slot. Removing it and then re-inserting it a couple of times usually helps... perhaps I should call Dell Tech Support about it. ;)

I've never had that problem with my Linksys CF card.. Sounds to me like a hardware issue..

Thats odd. Mine just started acting up the same way, Hard reset and soft reset be damned. It won't recognize a SanDisk 256 MB CF card (BUT IT DID BEFORE! (perfectly, I might add)). The program that seems to have done it was Battery Pack. I installed it and then picked up my Axim this morning and it did not work. I've tried soft resets, hard resets and taking it out and putting it back in again. It doesn't give me any error messages. It just doesn't say that anything is in there.

EDIT:

BTW, the Model number / identifaction jumble of characters on my SanDisk CF card is:

AR0304SL
CHINA

try pushing the card in just enough so that the pins make contact, but not so far that the card can't go any further.

this fixed a similar problem with my netgear MA701 CF card, and eventually i could stick the card in all the way without having the issue at all.

Thanks for the tip but it didn't work! I tried and tried. Funny It worked ok for several weeks. But now when I try to reinsert it I get this exact message:
Unrecognized card
enter the name of the device driver for this card. For information, see the card manufacturers documentation.

ANY IDEAS - I even tried a hard reset. but no luck.
