can you see that when you get it brand new?, i have a refurbished and it does do that but not quite as bad, sometimes it comes and goes, by that i dont mean that i can see it flicking on and off while its running i mean that sometimes when i turn it on it has it and sometimes it doesnt.

Could this be a sign that my backlight is starting to die on me?

Mine was that way from the start. The amount of contrast you see between light and dark areas depends on the background color (I purposely used white in the picture I posted because it's most obvious with light colors), the angle you are holding the Ax (tilting the top toward you makes them more obvious) and the intensity of the ambient light.

It's on all of them. It depends on the background, the brightness level, the angle of the screen and your own sensitivity to it. I don't even see it anymore unless someone asks.

I swear mine does not do that. I would try to get a replacement. That seems very annoying!!

Why not start a thread

with the service tag numbers that we send back to dell and why we sent it back....that way I know when I get my next refurb that isn't working I know what was wrong with it at first
