So I never leave my Axim on standby and it can usually go for about 3 days between charges. Last night the battery had 75% so I turn it off as usual and leave it in its case. This morning when I turn on my Axim I had 0% battery and the big warning comes on telling me that I can lose data.

Is there a reason my battery dies when it is not in use? Is it just a better idea to let it charge every night? Could my Axim have turned itself on in the middle of the night and the batteries died that way. I'm wondering if anybody has had the same experience. By the way this is the second time its happened.

Someone had that happen, I think some alarm came on and was set to not turn off until the user interupted it. If you have the volume low, or the mute on, you could not hear it.

I've left my Axim off for days at a time with no trouble, though if I have it locked in 300MHz mode (instead of auto or power save) it uses a bit more power even while off (up to 5% a day, though I had several apps open).

Is it possible you didn't actually turn it off, but just dimmed the screen? The on/off button has two functions: a quick click is on/off, a longer press goes bright/dim on the screen (page 12, User's Guide). Could you have just dimmed the screen but left the Axim on?

I have a really tight case made by Caselogic. I suspect that one of the buttons was pressed while I slid my Axim into its case. I have since unchecked my setting to not turn on when a button is pressed. I haven't had the problem since.
