Is my battery shot?

Gulp!
I tried to turn my Axim on today and it was completely dead. I tried a soft reset and still nothing - not even a dull glow in the power button.
I took off the battery and looked at - don't know why i did this but there you go! - and it looked fine.
In the end i put the axim (with battery) in the cradle and after about 20 seconds i could turn it on. BUT.... the unit had done a hard reset and lost everything :-(

I looked at the battery under system and it reported 0% charge (it is now at 71% after charging for 1 hour). The backup battery is at 100%.

Can anyone advise me what has happened. Surely the battery going flat should not wipe the memory (my CF card still has its data).

well my guess is your battery went to 0% full (flat) and this caused the backup battery to do its work. by taking the battery out you caused a hard reset, wiping everything of your ax (not including cf/sd cards).

next time your ax wont turn on, put it in the charger and wait for a few min, then turn it on and everything SHOULD be fine :D

hope this helps a little bit.

Did you just take the main batt. out or the little backup out too?

The battery on my Axim went dead a couple of weeks ago. After some research, I decided to go with anafter-market battery and have been getting amazing battery life out of it!

Hmm

It was only the main battery i removed.

I have read elsewhere that having active sync enabled can cause an 'automatic' sync attempt at midnight. If another app is running it may stop the Axim turning off - i have TomTom and i suspect i had not quit out completely ( i usually don't).

It has not happened since - but i have turned off auto active sync just in case.

Thanks for the comments all :-)

the axim will go down about 5% in bat life per week if you turn it off and its not on the charger. This is just because of date/time clock, Keepin mem, etc.
