Battery draining 1% every second!!!

Hi there,
Woke up this morning after leaving AXIM charged at 100%.
Powered up Axim, dead main battery.
Plugged in AC cord and waited a while before removing it, battery charge draining by 1% every couple of secs or so until dead again.
Did a hard reset and it seems to have fixed it.
Restoring now to see if it's a program I had loaded or not.

I'll let you know.

Mark

Noone answered, but I think I found it.

Say Axim on battery is 80%. Plug it into charger and it gets to 100% very quickly. Remove Axim and it goes back down again.
Basically, 100% does not mean 100%, the Axim charges for a long time after it reaches 100.

Cheers.

I would first try to "play" a bit with the Axim before I make any rush judgements ;) Of course it cannot "jump" from 80% to 100% within a few seconds or minutes. This is purely a miscalculation of the Axim.

I have seen similar comments in other posts.

Trying to figure out how much charge is contained in a battery is a very difficult process.

What may have happened in the above case is that some app fired up the ax and kept it going until the battery was flat (maybe the app went rogue). By plugging the ax in the voltage on the battery would have risen sharply, giving the false indication that the battery had charge. (my opinion would be to fully charge the axim if this sort of thing happened before removing the power supply).

I'm guessing that the system used to determine % charge is different to that which detects fully charged (ie that drops to trickle charging and just powering the axim).

The fully charged state is quite often determined by looking at the voltage for a small dip after a peak and I believe that temperature also rises sharply at around this point as well.

% charge is sometimes determined by a combination of power in and power out - what is done by most laptops (which is why they can't give accurate readings either - some now have calibration software to correct this).

What techniques the axim uses - random number generator? who knows?

Sounds more like a failure in your particular Axim to me. I've never seen the battery "rush" to 100% under any charge condition. Also, 100% on the meter is not necessarily full charge. Full charge is when the light in the on/off button goes green. I've seen mine indicate 100% but the light is still orange when plugged into the power supply. It can take 5-10 minutes for the light to go green in that case. I usually see that when I've been using the AX for a very short time, say 15 minutes, on battery, so it's not fully charged, but hasn't dropped to 99%, either.

But thats a battery problem with many electric things, if i charge my mobile in 5 minutes it will show it is fully downloaded, 10 minutes later it will beep about low battery, but if i charge it flr 4 hours it will make 200 hours stanby before it beeps. Irritating!
