Can not synch contacts

Ever since my hard drive died, I have not been able to synch with activesynch to upload everything in my contacts into a saveable file, and back into my outlook xp.

Anyone?
Thanks

Why not sync directly with outlook? What do you mean about saving to a file and then to outlook?

I want to sync my contacts so I can have access to my contacts in my computer. How do I sync in Outlook? I can have it sync my mail and stuff but sync to axim?

If it's syncing now but not to the Axim where is it going?

Are you using Active Sync? Have you enabled ActiveSync to sync your contacts?

Ok.
I have contacts in my axim that I want transfered into my computer.
I am using active sync and when I go into the options to set synch options... the Contacts does not have a check box next to it nor does it give me the option to go view details. I can have every thing synch but my contacts.

OK, then with the Axim OFF the cradle, open up AS on the PC, select your current profile (if you have more than one), and then go into the Settings. You should see the list with the default actions (what to sync and what not to). Can you enable the Contacts ?

From the main activesync page, does it say Guest on it?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

I accidentally got active sync to sync and it automatically syncronized it with my computer so all of my contacts are gone!

My brother has an axim is there a way I can copy his contact files over to mine? I want to be able to backup those files and not transfer them over ir.

Waaah!

Sure, you could beam them through IR.

No, the databases for contacts are read only except to the applications. You could get your brother to use his desktop to export his Outlook files to some file format (CSV for example) then you take the output file to your desktop and import it to Outlook (Not Outlook Express). Then set up activesync to overwrite the Ax with the desktop and sync it up. That should copy the Outlook contacts to Ax.

I don't think Outlook Express is supported in Activesync.

I cant seem to get my active sync to go and read the databases in the ppc. I choose export databases and the list of databases that I can access contains nothing.

Would you possibly know where the contact files are stored in outlook 2000? I have been digging through my old drive in hopes of finding the file.

Are there extractors for the dell backups? I have a few complete axim backups but they were before I updated my rom so they dont work. Should learn to backup more...

That's the way it is supposed to work. Only the application for the db can open the db.

Not sure what you are trying to say there. In what application are you trying to export databases? What list of databases are you talking about?

If it's been synced away, the only chance you have is to look in the trash folder under Outlook to see if they are still there. If they are not listed there, they won't be in any file on the computer that will have the contacts.

No. and Yes, backup more.

In ActiveSync->Tools->Export Data Tables... I was hoping that would let me dump the contacts onto my drive as a access file, but instead it can not find anything to export. I put some contacts back in and I would like to be able to put my contacts onto my hard drive in the future.

The drive I referred to is a drive I have not used for about 2 months. It still works but I replaced it because of the smart errors I have been getting. That drive had all my contacts and outlook stuff so I was hoping I can get it out of there and put it into my new drive.

I hope that makes sence.
