Slow Reboot

Hey I have a question for the teckies of 2002 version. I have a 512 mb CF and a 256 mb SD. The SD is almost full and the CF is over half. I have over 300 hundred programs and stuff on there. When I get close to 100 programs in the CF or SD I make a folder and move programs to it. On the Cf I have about 3 folders that have over 35 or more programs in them. I recreate shortcuts in the windows folder, the programs that I moved. They all respond with no problem. Everything works good except when I soft boot it, it is very slow. I see the icon that pops up that tells you it is reading there. I will push buttons and tap the screen and after a while all those menus pop up and I am ok. the Axim runs very well. Programs pop up just as fast. I went to the start menu and start up folders and removed what I dont want to start up, but there are programs that going on in the back ground, that I dont know of. One, how do I get there? I have some programs that allow me to get to the registry. Should I go there, what should I look for, or what? Thanks for your replies.

How long does it take? I have a good amount of programs installed (not nearly 300, though) and it takes around 2 minutes for my Axim to load after a soft reset. It seems the more programs you have installed, the longer it takes it to load up.

About that much time. I was wondering how to get to the registry. I have experience on that, just thought I might be able to tweak it.

usually the long reboots means it's clearing/formatting ram.

At each soft reset, the operating system reads in the directory of all storage. With the number of files you have, it takes a while to do that. Nothing in the Registry will let you tweak that function, it has to do that to be able to access the cards you have. Try this as a proof: Remove all cards and soft reset. I venture to guess it will restart very quickly. Now put the cards back in and soft reset again and it will be slow. It's just that you have so much stuff it has to catalog every time you soft reset. I am afraid you are going to have to live with it. Sorry.

No, on soft resets it doesn't clear or format anything. On a hard reset it clears RAM, erasing everything, but that is a fairly quick operation.
