Aximsitewifiicon WiFi Connection

I purchased a WiFi Card for my X5. I downloaded all the software, followed all instructions, did all the restarts and anything I can think of. As long as it is snyced to my computer it connects to the internet. Can anyone tell me how I can obtain a wireless connection without being connected to the computer?

Welcome to the site!

Is the card working at all? I.e., do you see lights, etc.? Does the software seem to detect the card? Did you make sure the card you purchased is compatible with the X5?

Have you looked at our wifi guide:

Yes, The lights come on. When I take it off the cradle the connection is still there. But when I try to go to the internet. I get "The page you are looking for can not be found"

Did you make sure that everything is set to connect to "work" (and not internet)? I believe there may be two spots where you make this configuration.

Try changing it to "work". If there's any other place where you have to choose between "work" and "internet", also change that.

Actually, the check box 'This network connects to the Internet' should be checked (there is no 'work' option on that page).

slimmer12, are you getting a valid IP? What card are you using?

Did you actually look at the WiFi Guide Gigi pointed you to? In any case, the most likely solution is in the network settings - Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Advanced (tab), Select Networks and select "My Work Network" from both of the pull down lists. If you then tap the Edit... button under either list and the Proxy Settings (tab), the top box (This network connects to the Internet) should be checked but leave everything else on this page blank. After tapping OK, make sure both dropdown lists are still set to My Work Network and OK your way back to the Today page and then soft reset.

Yes, I went all through that guide. I tried most if not all the things suggested in it and nothing is wirking. Those connection settings you stated are set that way. Only those boxes are checked. As long as My PPC is connected to the computer, it connects to the webpages. But if I take it off the cradle, It remains connected wirelessly through the card. You can see the bars, and it maintains a valid IP address. But when I try to go to internet explorer. I get that "the page you are looking for can not be found error"

What kind of card and what kind of router do you have (brand and models of both)?

Which OS is on your X5?

I apologize, I new to this. I do NOT have a valid IP address. After more reading on the Axim configuaration site; it states that:If your PPC is showing an IP number similar to 169.xxx.xxx.xxx (where the xxx's are numbers between 0 and 254), it is not communicating properly to receive a server-assigned IP. The IP address I'm getting is: 169.254.35.15, so obviously this isn't right. I don't have internet at home. I'm trying to set this up at work. I think we have a firewall up.

A Firewall is probably not the problem but your work almost certainly has security set up. The nature of the security could be a deciding factor for whether it can work. The X5 will not be able to use WPA or WPA2. It's also possible the wireless is set to 802.11G only and that may be a problem for connecting the X5 (there are some 802.11G cards but you will have problems with drivers if your X5 is using PPC02).

You need to check with your work's IT people to find out how the wireless is set up.

My card is the
Gemtek 11Mbps Wireless LAN CF Card
Model:WL-672
IEEE 802.11b Compliant
DSSS at 204 Ghz ISM Band.

Microsoft Pocket PC
Version 4.20.1081 (Build 13100) 1996 - 2003

Usually when IT setup a laptop wirelessly, they have to leave the building. Last night when I was at home, in the network status, I had link quality and signal strength, but they were very weak. After I download all the drivers, inserted the card, a popup box appeared, I input 'prismnds.dll' and did a soft reset. The last instruction was to "Start sniffer software program". What is that?
