I have a .dbk file from my old Axim X5 300 MHz that was running Pocket PC2002. The old X5 took it's final trip onto a concrete floor - !%$#^&@. I now have an Axim X5 400 MHz that is running Pocket PC 2003 but it will not restore with the .dbk file I have. How can I convert the data so it is compatible with PC 2003? I need to get al my data back. I got a card reader and have the .dbk file on a laptop now. Thanks for the help.

you cannot convert those files... they can only be installed back to the same device. you need to get another x5 and restore the backup to that device, then retrieve the data and back it up another way.
sprite backup allows you to take from your backups using their proprietary backup explorer app jd | |||||||||

JD - Thanks for the feedback. I contacted both Dell and Microsoft and they each say the other is responsible for support. Ultimately though the answer is that if the .dbk was created on Pocket PC 2002 it can only be used on Pocket PC 2002. I'm surprised there isn't some type of translator though but... Thanks again.

Well it is not that it needs to be translated. They are to completely different Operating Systems. If you restore a backup from PPC2002 on to a PPC2003 os then it will mess up the operating system. It uses different thing like different files registry entries etc. So even if there was a translation program there would be no way to put a PPC2002 backup onto a PPC2003 OS. The same the other way also.

Got another Dell Axim X5 running Pocket PC 2002 as the OS and the .dbk could be used to "Restore". What a relief to get my calendar and contacts back!! I don't know how to get the word out that the various Windows Mobile OS system files work ONLY in that OS - once you buy a device you are stuck with it's OS.
