Help! (please)
hey guys just got a x5 last night and i am wanting to get on the internet! i don't want to spend a lot of money for a card, but i dont want a p.o.s. either... this thing has no upgrades or anything, so my question is this. What do i need to do/buy to get on the internet? Ive been reading about some kind of upgrade that is usually needed, what brand of card should i get, ect. thanks! Also can i buy a card locally (best buy, circuit city) or do i have to buy it online (dell, ebay ect.)

The sad thing is that.....if you paid, let's say $40 for the x5, and now you need to buy a CF wifi.....that's gonna cost you around $45.
You could have picked up a nice X50 mid for just a few more dollars (literally). The x50 would have wifi and bluetooth built in. Now for your question. In my opinion, get your CF wifi card at a bigbox store. That way, if you can't get it work, then you can have an easy path to a refund. Or, if you're brave, get your card on ebay. Do a search for: cf wifi axim You'll get several options. Or, if you just want to get on the internet...why don't you just plug it in to the USB and use ActiveSync as the conduit?

Check the WiFi FAQ for models known to work with the X5: Can anyone suggest a CF card for my Axim X5? (note that I mention the Linksys WCF54G in the FAQ because that was one of the first 802.11g cards to be sold but I'm not sure there are drivers that will allow it to work with the X5).

You might also check the classifieds here or put a WTB - Want to Buy AD. Someone may have exactly what you're looking for at a low price.

Am I missing something?? As for wi-fi cards, get on EBay and look up the Netgear MA700. I've used those since I had my Jornada 548 and 568 and they still work with the Axim X5. I even had to do some supergluing to make my case hold together on one of mine. I have 2 of them but, I keep the second for a spare.

Looks like your getting good advice. I bought a Symbol Spectrum 24 LA-4137 for mine and with the proper drivers (you can get them off this site) it works great. You can also get the usb sync cable that will plug into a usb port on your pc an surf the net too. Wireless is WAYYYYYY better though.
