Have you tried a soft or hard reset? (Note that a hard reset will delete all data and installed programs.) If you have tried those already, touchscreens are available at:
The prices are rather high; if you can get your hands on an old non-working X5 (i.e., via Ebay, etc.) just for the parts, it might be a cheaper solution.
Ran the ppc2003 cd, which copied old rom to my HD, deleted all ram, then reinstalled new os, anyways, still no reaction to stylus. Now I just have click screen to setup, and can get no farther
I mean I placed a piece of 1/4" tape over the ribben cable 2 different times. I even place the batteries back on the motherboard without the cover, and same thing happened, I get screen working but no touch sensitivity. I can tap the screen all day, and nothing registers. If I push the toggle on the side, I go to the next screen which askes me to align screen, but no stylus response.
"At the bottom right/middle of the screen is a red/brown ribbon cable, which is the cause of the problem. Cut a piece of insulation tape approx 1/4 inch wide and place this so that it covers all or at least the left edge of the ribbon cable (you can wrap it under the cable also)."
Of the 50 or so that I've repaired, I never heard of that.
As for the cables - I can tell you that all 3 have to be re-seated practically at the same time. It's impossible to do one at a time due to the lack of extra cable length to move around.
I can also tell you that things, on occasion, just stop working.
