Another X5 funeral

Well, it finally happened. My venerable X5 has died.

It suffered a crash, would not restore from backup, and then started continually rebooting when it reached the Dell logo screen. Hopefully, I can get a new device in December. Until then, I'll just have to rely on the old grey matter.

I think I'm in trouble.

Sorry to hear that. It does sound like it's toast, but have you tried removing all the batteries for a few hours?

I had to pull the battery to stop the constant rebooting but I didn't try leaving them out. I will try that tonight.

I see that you had a 2GB SD card with your X5.

Were you one of the fortunate few who actually could use more than 1GB of SD storage?

I never did find out why this worked for some and not for others.

Sorry to hear about your x5. Hmm, any chance you had any cracked software on there (ie pocket mechanic)?

Did you do a hard reset?

I'm guessing you have wm 2002, it could only handle 1 gig sd, while 2003 A05 could handle 2 gig cards...

No cracked software.
It crashed, so yes, a hard reset.
WM2003 and it still would only use the first 1GB of a 2GB card, even though it saw that it was 2GB.

I never did determine why. It has the later processor, A05, a fast SD card, and it still would not let me use more than the first 1GB of a 2GB card.

Oh well. A moot point now.

Hey geneb, I was fortunate that the x5 did recognize the 2GB card (just tested my 4GB transcend card and it recognized the card and all usable space), I have read in the forum where some users could only use the 1GB card but I never new why.

After leaving the battery off for most of a day and trying again. The Axim LIVES! I have reinstalled most of my software. Most of it functions but there are some minor glitches, that I can live with for now.

Thanks for the suggestion, Gigi!

Wow, that's great to hear! Now that you've drained your backup battery, make sure you go out and get a replacement. ;)
