Aximsitemobileicon Software Developement

I'm not too sure if this is the correct forum for this question! But I can't find a more appropriate one.

Is there any way of developing for the Axim X5 without having to resort to installing WinXP?

Or is there an upgrade to WM2003SE? Because Visual Studio 2008 handles WM2003se and above!

Many Thanks

What do you mean by "having to resort to installing WinXP"?

If you're already using VS2008 I presume you are at-least using XP or Vista, right? In any case, you should be able to deploy a solution to WM2003 from VS2008 ... for that matter you can do it from VS2005.

I use Windows 7, it's not perfect by any means but it is a better OS than any other I have tried! But that is my oppinion!

Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 is not supported on Vista or 7, and is not compatible.

And eVB is no longer available, or at least I can't find a copy anywhere!

Thanks for the reply anyway.

Zombee,

Ahh, so you're using Win7 (RC1 I presume) as your primary O/S already? I've got it running in a VM right now ... I'm not in the habit of replacing primary O/S with a beta. Glad to hear it's working out.

No, VS2003 won't be supported there but, as I said before, if you get a copy of VS2005 or VS2008 (either one in their 'standard' edition) then you should be able to deploy an executable to WM2003. The Standard version of 2008 can be had at Programmer's Paradise (Programmers Web Site Development Software Application, Visual Studio .Net - Programmers.com) for around $260.00 for the full version. Not too bad; particularly if you are developing a package to sell.

You will not, probably, be able to develop to Windows Mobile with one of the free "Express" editions of Visual Studio.

Yes, it is RC1, although I have only just changed it! Even when it was pre-RC1 it was extremely stable. And have had no problems with both the 64-bit and 32-bit version.

For example, drivers. All vista drivers worked although some had to be installed in Vista compatibility mode.

Sorry I get back to the point.

I have VS2008, however, VS2008 will not support anything less than WM2003SE, and I have WM2003 on my AXIM. I don't have a copy of VS2005 and of course, my copy of VS2003 is not compatible! :(

On the express editions, you are correct, there is no mobile development supported on them, unless you count the XNA addon!

Many Thanks
