Changing the digitizer is easy, do a full backup first though! I've done four recently and got it down to about 20 minutes without rushing. Look at gethightech.com, under repair directions, for the opening instructions, if the digitizer is broken make sure you remove any pieces of glass from the LCD.
If you search Ebay for a Dell Axim X5 digitizer, you'll find them quite cheaply, I paid £2.99 for mine, just make sure you search Worldwide as that can throw up cheaper ones than those on your countrys Ebay. The only thing to bear in mind is that some digitisers come without double sided tape on them.
It's easy enough to apply tape, make sure you're applying it to the right side, remove the protective film, apply the tape to the edge of the digitizer with about 1/16" (1.6mm) on the glass and up from one end by about the same, the reason for the gap is to avoid an overlap when you stick the last piece in place.
Turn the digitizer over and trim the surplus off with a sharp knife, do the same for the other three sides and you're away, just be carefull not to damage the ribbon cable when you trim that edge.
