MSOutlook and Axim X5

I have an original Axim X5 that has served me well for many years. It came with a copy of Windows Outlook 2002 (or 2003).

Since installing Outlook and getting things running, I have changed my backup computer, and no longer have the original. I cloned the old harddrive, and most things are working fine. No such luck for Outlook. It will not load without the original disk, which I have misplaced. There is an original installation of outlook on my cloned pc harddrive, intact as far as I know (AFAIK).

There was no requirement by Microsoft to keep the installation to one pc, at the time I installed it.

Actually, I can still access a lot of Outlook on my PC. It still tries to update material on the Axim X5, too. Just nothing works right, and most of the time when I run something that depends on Outlook I get one of several error messages -- not fatal errors. Many of the messages just ask me to get the original disk, which I can't seem to do.

Any ideas, other than the obvious "Find it!"?

And, with this problem, what would happen were I to update MSOutlook 2002/3 to MS Office Professional (including Outlook) 2007. How would MSOffice work with Windows Mobile 2003?

Cloned or not, you still need the original license key to get Outlook running correctly. If you've lost the casing that the CD was in, then you probably don't have the license key and it is a lost cause.

Upgrading to Outlook 2003 or 2007 should not be a problem when syncing to your pocket pc. I've used Outlook 2002, 2003 and now 2007 with my pocket pcs with no problems whatsoever.

Aximsitex5icon Thanks for the information

Hi Julie - I did find the product activation code this afternoon -- still can't find the CD (or was it a floppy?) though I located my cache of original Dell Axim X5 stuff, like spare styluses.

It is good to know that I will be able to upgrade the Axim X5 to Outlook 2007, since that will be a simple and legal product for which I *do* have the disks.

Thank you very much, and all the best.
