Aximsiteactivesyncicon cradle - usb2serial - computer

i recently purchased a cradle for my axim x5 on eBay. unfortunately the end plug of the cradle was a serial (female) and not a usb. i don't have a serial port on my computer. so i bought an adaptor, to allow me to plug it into my computer. the adaptor came with a mini CD with 4 folders on it. the folders are named as follows -
1. HL0108.
2. PL2303.
3. R340.
4. Usb-SIM9.0
through internet surfing i learn't that the PL2303 was probably the one i needed to install for my USB to serial adaptor. :( so i installed it :approve:, but my cradle still didn't work! the install new hardware wizard still pops up after start up to install drivers for, what i believe to be, the usb to serial adaptor. :bang: but i'm not 100% sure if the wizard is for the adaptor or the cradle. :realmad: there were no drivers for the cradle.
after installing the adaptor drivers the wizard asked me if i had the adaptor plugged in already, if so it said to unplug it and plug it back in again, so that the computer can recognize the new hardware. when i did that it just starts up the install hardware wizard again which then doesn't work.
i've tried to use the hardware wizard to install the adaptor but whatever way i try doesn't work. :bang: when i allow the wizard to automatically install (with the drivers CD in the DVD-RW) it comes up with nothing. shrug when i tell it to look in a certain location, it doesn't work :rolling: and when i browse to that location, the OK button fades and doesn't allow me to click it.
what can i do?
is the PL2303 the one to use?
do i have to install other drivers (like ones for the cradle)?
what are the other folders for?

I don't have any experience with your adapter cable, but it sounds like you may still need to install MS ActiveSync on the computer. Version 3.8 is recommended for the X5. Download @ Download Microsoft ActiveSync - Old Version.com. ActiveSync allows your X5 to connect through the cradle to the computer.
