Sandisk Compact Flash Problems

Ok, I bought a 256MB Sandisk CF card from best buy to use on my PPC... big mistake. It keeps messing up. For awhile it'll work fine, then one day I'll get a dialog that asked me if I want to format the card to make it readable. I do, then when I try and put data on it again it will write the data, then any attepts to write after that result in "the card does not have enough space on it" errors. Then I take the card out and put it back in and it dosn't work at all. Not even detected. Can anyone help at all, or show me a program I can run when this starts to happen to prevent data loss and such?

There has been many discussions on this issue with many ideas of causes and solutions.

Here's what worked for me. Download an app called StorageTools and format the SD card to FAT32. I found this stabilized my card.

I also found that when I delete items from the card it doesn't seem to release the space properly, causing 'out-of-memory' errors. Using the same app to defrag the card cures that problem. To defrag the card you'll need to purchase the app as defrag doesn't work in demo mode.

Try that out, however Chrissss he is having problems with a CF card, not an SD. This isn't a common problem. The Sandisk CF cards have been stable in the Axim. I would wager it is a card problem, and not the notorious Axim-Sandisk SD issue. Depending on how long ago you purchased it, I would exchange it for another.

Well I can't... that's the bummer, I sent in the UPC for a rebate already... or will sandisk replace it?

Well the card is formatted to FAT32, but I still can't install applications to it.

Oops, your right. We almost never see issues on CF cards. I'm just so used to seeing 'SD card problem" threads I just automatically read it as that. :D

Yes, it's very likely there is an issue with that card and it should be returned to the retailer/manufacturer.

no. if that were true then everything sold with a rebate would have its warranty automatically voided. as far i know, ownership of the unit is all you need.
