Trying to attached my Axim to an IBM T23 laptop running Win98. Keeps attaching me as as a GUEST. After several attempts of installing/uninstalling the ActiveSync software finally got the "partnership" wizard to run. Have no idea what I did!! Then after disconnecting the PDA and reattaching it 5 minutes later, I am again recognized as a GUEST. From reading the DELL messages boards this seems to be an ongoing issue.
I am only have problems with my work PC, at home it works fine..

Do you have Win98 on your home computer as well? If not, that may be the issue.

Same here. At home, I've got XP and no problems at all. At work, Toshiba laptop running win98. Everytime I plug in the axim, it automatically connects me as a guest. I can remove the axim, delete the partnership, and reseat the axim. Then it will let me set up a new partnership. Of course this is a pain in the rear, not to mention causes many duplicates.
So far, I have uninstalled & re-installed activesync, both 3.5 & 3.6. I have re-installed the dell drivers. I have selectively removed software that might be causing sync confusion. I have completely uninstalled EVERYTHING... all drivers, active sync, etc., hard reset the axim, and started from scratch and no joy.
It worked fine for a day. I thought for sure, since it did work successfully for a time, that starting from scratch would get it back in line.
I'm all out of ideas and trolling for other people's.
Please help me. Please Please HELP ME........

Sounds like a Win98 problem. Seems most of the issues I have read where people have this problem is related to Win9x. ME, 2000, and XP seem to work fine. I would upgrade to 2000 or XP, you'll be much happier for more reasons that just syncing your Axim! :D I mean Win98 is 5 years old now and will be at the end of it's life-cycle on June 30, 2003. It's halfway through it's extended support period now.

Amen! W2K is the most stable platform I have ever used. I'm SURE there are other opinions, but it has never crashed on me ... and coming from W98, that's saying a lot.

Yup, you got it! I've been using W2K at home for 2 years and can count the number of crashes on one finger. I have 12 W2K servers at work and although they reboot every night, they are a million times more stable than anything Microsoft has ever put out. I haven't seen a BSOD in almost 2 years now!! I smell an upgrade coming soon

Also, if you must stay with W98, apply all the updates and upgrades for it. Those updates make it work much better, particularly for USB support. Dell strongly recommends updating W98.

Seems to me that a script is established with the first PC that sync is run on and from that point onward is the PRIMARY PC. When connecting to another PC anywhere you should be recognized as a guest... at least that is what I have come to understand. Kind of like logging on as a GUEST on AOL using someone else's computer. (Elementary comparison to be sure.) This is for security purposes and licensing. Again, this is what I undertand to be the case. Please illuminate if anyone else has knowledge of this as I would be very interested in learning more about it.
Thanks in advance,
Ron
