I too am having battery drain
I had the battery drain problem overnight. Lost all data. What good is the backup battery? I rechagred to 100% and did not use. Rechecked the battery in two hours and the meter was down to 89%. Dude, Dell do you have a recall problem?

Try removing the backup battery, cleaning it and reinserting it. I have gone a week now with no problems.
In a way I am glad I am not the only one to have this problem, although it is bad when you loose data!

Well...
I agree with the statement about the Handspring Visor. Mine was much more reliable than any Axim, and the batteries lasted much longer. However, I haven't had a single battery problem with my Axim either. I've never lost any data. I do agree that the backup battery is absurdly useless. It will last only 60 seconds before it dies. Ah well, my Visor couldn't play NES games. :)

My battery went over the weekend. Left work with main and back-up batteries listed at 100%. Turned the device on Saturday and it reported the main battery dead and then the whole unit died.
It's on the charger right now. Once it's up I'll try cleaning my back-up battery, but I have to tell you this is not acceptable. Thankfully, I backed the unit up last weekend - to the CF card!
If others are having this problem, please let us know. I think a note to Dell may be in order.
Note: Device is approx. 1-mo. old.

Plug it in. It will be OK after a full charge. This is what a few of us are having problems with.
Good Luck

Died in its sleep
My Axim died yesterday. When I pulled it out of its zippered case it was telling me to push a button to save memory or to dump it. I was out of town and not close to the cradle. I did have the ac adapter though and nothing happened. When I got home I put it in its cradle and it came right to life. All my info was gone and i had to do a restore to get my stuff back. Batteries appear to be charging ok now. Hope this isn't a reaccuring thing. Anyone have any ideas? Yea I do have the on battery power if not used turn off in 3 minutes. Also have on external power if not used turn off in 5 minutes. Under suspended mode no checks in the boxes for turn on. Guess I will wait to see if it happens again.

The unit is coming back up to full charge. I was able to restore my last back-up OK. However, for it to work properly, I had to perform a soft reset.
The back-up battery itself is dead, I assume I have to purchase a new one.
Getting activeSync realigned was different story, a bit of a pain.
Does anyone have an explantation for the mysterious battery drain? My system is not set to turn on unless the power button is pressed.
I've wasted a couple of hours this morning recovering from the outage. I don't recall reading about this fine feature in the manual!

Add me to the list of dead axim. I have the cradle at work so I was using the axim over weekend and got it down to about 60%. I came to work this morning, pluged it into the cradle and it froze... I was wondering why it's taking more than 5 mins to sync. I couldn't get the axim to repsond so I just removed the main battery to shut it off and then try to fire it up again. It shows me a screen to delete all my data or cancel. I picked cancel, of course, and it'll just go to the blue dell screen and stays frozen. I had no choice but to delete everything and now I'm back to square one. My backup battery is showing 70% so I have no idea what's going on. I think I'll remove it, clean, and put it back in to see what happens.

Report it...
Because many people are experiencing this problem, I would highly recommend that all of you report it to Dell. I've lucked out so far, my Axim hasn't had any major problems.

Died yet again
Went to take Axim out of the cradle where it had been all night and it would not even come up yet again. Had to do yet another restore. Nothing scheduled, no task even close. It was in the charger all night. I am starting to get impatient with it. I checked both batteries. it is charging OK now. What next. Anyone with any ideas?

had somewhat similiar problem with fiances axim. turned out to be the ac cord DRAINING her battery.
I connect my axim to her ac cord and watched it drain 10% of my battery in 10 seconds before i unplugged it.
dell has a new ac cord shipped. even though they tried to send a battery *shrug* they don't listen well.

WEll, I had mine off the cradle for a nite, and it was at 70 % when I woke up the next day. Do you have anything attached at all?
PS the batteries that the axim uses are lithium-ion batteries, the more you charge them the better they get.

Interesting that almost all of you have had problems involving the cradle... I have an axim 300 and I just plug it into the AC (sync cable off) and I haven't had any problems... Do you think it could be the cradle?

Back up battery dying
I can't believe that so many people including myself are having such profound problems with the battery, including the backup battery. I too am going to call dell and complain.
