If anyone gets a decent answer from Dell as to the potential cause of the mystery drain, obviously, please post it.

Thanks!

Finally!!!

Guys, I have to tell you this is the first time I have come across a group of people who have had the same problem I have had. I read and post to a few other forums and have had no luck. But seeing so many other people with this issue lets me know its not just me. Especially given the inexplicable nature of this problem.

Below I have included links to other threads on other forums that detail a few other peoples problems as well as my own. You will notice my name remains the same in all the treads. Has anyone gotten any sort of resolution on this issue? Dell is sending me yet another battery that I should receive today or tomorrow. But they did not appear to have any knowledge of this issue.

Guys this is driving me nuts and I would love to get to the bottom of it. Let me know where you guys stand with this problem. My Axim is starting to bring more grief into my life than joy. Thanks again

Links:

(This link is what started it all off for me, the topic was not regarding this exact problem but since I couldn't find anyone else with this problem I decided that I would add my Dell overall experience, now it may seem like an angry post guys but realize my Axim was dying on me for no reason and the problems I had with Dell were putting me on the edge a bit)

http://www.pocketpcpassion.com/forum...threadid=27751

This is the first time I found on another forum where someone else had this issue

http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...pic.php?t=9423

Then here

http://www.pocketpcpassion.com/forum...threadid=28820

Then I discovered this in this forum
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...&threadid=4483

And finally this thread.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Waiting

The first month the device worked as advertized. Now it seems to have a mind of its own. Dell isn't recognizing that there may be a problem with their Axim. I love the Axim other than the restoreing itself to its factory setting. Reading other forums Dell seems to be throwing the ball into Microsofts court. Who is ultimately responsible? Will we ever truly find out?

I agree tomshell, my problems started a few weeks after I had been using the Axim problem free (of coures this was my second unit due to the first being replaced because of the D-Pad issue)

Dell tech support is clueless.
I really want some answers because like you I love this Axim but these problems are a little more than unacceptable!

most likely it is Microsoft's fault, or I should say the PPC os, because hardware, "usually" works like it should. For example, a fan turns when it has power, the only time it doesn't turn, is when it doesn't have power. (or bearing out, but that is not what I am trying to say lol.) Hardware does not "usually" go out that fast in my opinion,..

Budman,

This is true but if in fact PPC 2002 was more to blame than the Axim itself wouldn't this be an issue for the majority of PPC users out there? I know a number of people that have PPC 2002 devices that have never had a problem like this before and I also know a few Axim users who have had this problem only once and can't really sympathize with those of us who have had it reoccur repeatedly.

Trust me I like to blame MS to, and I agree that the hardware usually works under the direction of the software but I think this problem is Dell specific. What it is I can’t say. If I did this problem would be a whole lot easier.

Either way I got my new battery from Dell yesterday. I will keep you guys posted as to whether it occurs again.

Hmm

I too have had the Axim die on me overnight after having a full charge twice in the 2 weeks I have had it.

I think I just saw what it does. I came in this morning and the battery was at 10% after not using it at all since the last full charge. I put it on the cradle and it started charging. With the battery screen up, I pulled it off the cradle with about 40% battery power. I was then able to watch the battery lose 1% of charge about every 2 seconds! I immediately put it back on the cradel and when I took it off again it wasn't discharging like that. It seems like it has a tendency to go into a bad power draining state once in a while.

What is going on?:exc:

I don't have any problems with the unit discharging at night, but a few observations after reading all this ...
If you leave the Ax in the cradle with the cable plugged into the PC, it may keep waking up check for activity. Of course, if the charger is plugged in, this shouldn't be a problem.
Check that no notifications or alarms are active. Start, Settings, System, Clock, Alarms ... make sure all are unchecked. Start, Settings, Personal, Sounds and Notifications, Notifications ... Item #1, check each event one at a time in the drop-down list and uncheck "Flash light for ..." for each item.
Close all applications for the night instead of just minimizing them, with a soft reset if necessary before turning it off.
Make sure nothing is touching the screen when put to rest.

Worried battery drain problem-solution??

Has anyone thought it might be a battery problem. Has anyone tried switching to a different battery. I had the same problem with a laptop computer and it turned out to be a faulty production batch of batteries. This seems probable since not everyone is having the problem.

OK. Here is a thread on the Dell message boards talking about this issue:
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfor...ssage.id=14977

I encourage all who are having this problem to post here. I would imagine Dell monitors those boards the closest and would get the idea if there were enough posts.

Mike C / elblancodiablo;

In response to Mikes post.
My Axim drain occurs when the unit is fully synced and then powered down and put to rest off the cradle. Nothing rests even near the screen to turn it on. (not even in the case)
I long ago learned the pitfalls of the flashing green light and have disabled the flashing green light, full screen reminder, sound, repeating alarm, and power on options of the notification features.

The unit is also set to power down after 5 minutes, I myself have witnessed it do this numerous times without fail so even if it is inadvertently turned on I don't see how it stays on long enough to drain down to 10% (but I will admit that it is a possibility to be looked at so I have gone ahead and purposely left the Axim on many many times to see if it powers itself down which it does without fail despite numerous open applications).

As for the famous "power up at midnight" feature of the PPC OS and its known conflict with apps such as Media Player I will admit that this may and I emphasize may be a problem. Only because I have recently tried to duplicate the problem by fully charging the Axim opening Media Player, among other apps, and leaving it off the cradle to see if I can tie this battery drain problem to that. So far no success. I can’t force it to drain yet it seems more than happy to do it randomly (and when I need the Axim most I might add) These battery drains are just about as random as they get. I have disabled apps, removed memory cards and yes - switched batteries- all to no avail. And while I have not ruled out a simple fix so far I (and others who have this problem) have not been able to find one.

elblancodiablo,

As for the battery - as I just mentioned when the issue first started occurring (after about 3 or 4 times) I called Dell and told them the problem. They suggested the battery being an issue so they sent me a new (refurbished !! ) one. After 4 or 5 days with no problem I was ready to concede that it must have been the battery. But of course the crap refurb battery they sent me had another problem - the normal battery life was horrible - I wasn't get nearly the same amount of uptime I was getting on my old battery. So I called Dell and after many calls finally got them to agree to send me a NEW battery. Well during my haggling with Dell (about two weeks into me using the refurb) the problem occurred again. This pretty much rules out it being a battery problem unless the refurb they sent me had this issue as well as poor battery life. So just yesterday the new battery finally arrived. I charged last night and used this morning and so far so good. Battery life while turned on is where it should be. But I am not ready to say the rapid drain issue is all gone until I work with this battery for a week or two. Like I said it is random and very difficult to replicate.

But thanks for the suggestions guys and keep em coming!!! :D

Catz122,

I have seen that same behavior - the drainage of 1% every two minutes. Very odd. will be posting to that Dell forum. And I would suggest everyone who has this issue to do the same. I think this is a problem Dell needs to look at and resolve as the main reason of having a PDA is uptime and accessibility to information. If I have to worry about my Dell powering down for no reason when I need it most there is a real problem.

Thanks guys!!!

Had the AXIM since Dec 15, 2002. I had to RESET the PDA 4 times. It seems to lock up while navigating thru the start menu. Only way I can get back is to RESET. I have been fortunate not to loose any data.. yet.

Did you get an answer from tech support about the issue?
