Mad ActiveSync connecting issue / Service Pack 1?

I wonder if anyone can help me with this problem.

I installed a Linksys Wireless Router yesterday and my Desktop PC is now connected to my DSL through the router wirelessly with a Linksys Wireless G PCI Adapter. In order to get WEP encryption up and running, I needed to install Windows XP Service Pack 1 on my Dimension 4300 PC.

Today I tried to sync wirelessly and in doing so I deleted my current ActiveSync partnership and renamed my device ID on my Axim. Now when I try to sync through my cradle, ActiveSync connects for a few seconds and starts to sync then craps out and the icon in my tray goes gray. Before, the icon would stay green whenever my Axim was in the cradle.

I am able to sync wirelessly now, but I still have the same problem where midway through the syncing process, the connection craps out and the ActiveSync icon goes gray.

I tried installing the latest version of ActiveSync but that doesn't help things either.

Is there something with my router that could be affecting this? I seriously doubt it because when I disable my wireless connection in XP (and am essentially off the internet alltogether) I still get this same issue of a brief connection.

I'm thinking that maybe the install of Service Pack 1 fudged up my drivers or something.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated, thanks![B]

Did your upgrade turn on the firewall in XP? If it did, then it could be blocking the connection.

Nope, I made sure the firewall was disabled. There's a firewall on my router though.

The router firewall shouldn't be the problem. It may be the USB drivers, but that's doubtful. I saw this trick and it seems to work for me:

1. Right click on the Activesync icon on the desktop.
2. Choose Properties, then the Compatibility tab.
3. Click on the Compatibility Mode select box.
4. Pick Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5) in the window in that section.
5. Click Apply.

That sequence has stopped the random dropouts that I was experiencing.
