Question Plz Help...Regarding my CF 56 k modem

Hi everyone. Everytime I try to connect to my ISP via my socket CF 56 k modem, the message : 'the modem you're trying to connect to is busy" appears. I can connect normally with my desktop modem, so I suspect this is a settings problem. Should I enable 'wait for dialing tone', or enter extra dial-string modem commands,or check 'use terminal before/after connecting'...etc? The options are so numerous I can't find the right combination. Not to mention the options of 'enable software compression, baud rate, and others. Every time the modem manages to dial the ISP number, then after a minute or so brings up the message. What is particularly suspicious is that even if I enter a bogus telephone number (like mine, instead of the ISP's), it still displays the same dreadful message... I HAVE to connect to the web via my Axim! Man, that's why I bought it for! (Not really). So guys, I'd appreciate any help, any info, any glimpse of light. Thanks.

H.S.

I would say you do need to enable the wait for dial tone if you are connecting to a phone jack. Other than that, I have connected using a modem which was setup with the same settings as my home computer, no extra dial strings or anything.
