Well, I got the TrueMobile with my Axim X5 as a Christmas present, and now that I'm back at work, I find the TrueMobile to have very poor range.
So, I think I'm going to send it back for a refund, and was hoping to just use that credit to switch it to a Socket CF card... I hear it's the best.
I hate Dell's website. I'm looking for the card there, but I can't seem to find it. It seems odd to me that they sell the Socket 56K modem CF card but not the CF WiFi... Am I corrent that they don't carry it, or am I just searching in the wrong place?
If you're getting money back and not credit, go for the Symbol Wifi card. It's supposed to be the same as the Socket but cheaper. Just got mine from DoctorSurplus on Ebay. It's awesome! And awesome price! (25 bucks shipped).

People say this, but I don't think its 100% true. The drivers work between the two but part of what makes the Socket so good is the tech support. The question you have to ask yourself is that worth the exta for you. I'ved used the tech support a couple times and they have been quick and have followed up with me. Thats the kind of service I reward.

Thanks very much. Sounds like I'm still interested in the Socket. Can anyone tell me what range I expect to get with this? I'm new to all aspects of wireless so as much info as simple as possible would be much appreciated.
Its so hard to guess range. I work in a metal/concrete building so I dont' get good range, but at home I can walk all around my house with no issues. I've never used a TrueMobile CF WiFi card before, but I did have a Netgear CF card and the Socket was a good 50 feet further than it.
Somebody on one of the forums said they looked up their socket card at the FCC and it said it was manufactured by Symbol. Symbol and Socket have a joint venture and it looks like they're the same card (but don't hold me to it). Do a search in the forums. There are a couple of threads on this question. But if you're in for the tech support, then maybe Socket is the way to go. But FYI, I was able to get my card going without a problem.
But the Driver took months to get out. Socket had their driver out the day WM 2003 came out. No other WiFi company came close. That is what you pay for. Can you imagine waiting 3-4 months for a driver?
D-link was advertising compatability with Dell on their packaging, and like a dope, I happily bought it...and then waited four months for them to write a driver for WM.
As an aside, I hate these plastic clamshell packs that you can't open without destroying. I couldn't get the device out without cutting the whole pack in half.

I'm sure Linksys will have their WM2003 driver out in time for WM2004.
