Question Clock Alarm won't always wake up!

When I set timers on my a-5 advanced, the unit is inconsistently not waking up and sounding the alarm. When I do turn unit on after noticing past alarm not going off, unit immediately alarms ( but may be late by 1 to more that 30 minutes! My co-worker has the same unit and he reports the same inconsistent troubles at times but his unit is working currently.
I have ROM version A05 and run WM2003 from factory.
I bought my unit in Mid. October.

My question is has anyone else experienced this problem or knows of a fix for this?

Thanks!
:crooked:

Not just the Axim

This has shown up on other WM2003 devices as well. For the record, my wife has an X5 that started with PPC2k2 and I upgraded it to WM2k3. I have a newer X5 that came with WM2k3. Neither of us has run into this problem. However, I bought two X5's for a married couple we're friends with and BOTH of them had the same problem. It was solved by going here:
http://www.burroak.on.ca/wm2k3tweaks.html
and downloading the utility, running it and configuring it (it basically does some registry setting changes and allows cleaning of some of the database tables in PocketOutlook.

Microsoft SORT of acknowledges the problem, but isn't putting resources into it because of the apparent random nature of the problem. Personally, I wish they'd release a complete detailed breakdown of every possible registry key and setting that WM2003 can have. I'm not timid about registry surfing, and there's a lot behind the scenes that can be adjusted.

I installed the patch and it still didn't work. Checked the "Always wake up PPC to full power mode" and it worked this morning! Oh happy day :D

Depends on how loud your system volume is.

Change it to a different sound. There are several to choose from and if those don't meet your need then you can create a new .wav file (Sound Recorder) or download one from the internet.

Note: Place the new wave file in your Axim's windows folder

I added the wakeup tweak and finally woke up and got to work ontime! Thanks!
I almost gave up on using the X3 as an alarm clock.

The inconsistency with the alarms is a but in WM2003. Pressure has been put on the OEMs to fix this but it is more of a Microsoft issue. The Burr Oak link above is a fine fix to get around this issue.

To also point out a similar bug in WM2003, there is a bug that affects the Notifications DB. After soft resets duplicate alarm notifications are created in the Notifications DB causing the DB to get large making the PPC slow. The is affect the ability to sync and other things. There is a fix at www.scarybearsoftware.com for this. It is Check Notifications and Clear Notify. The Clear Notify installs into your startup folder and will delete duplicates for you whenever you do a soft reset.

Ted,

I did add the scarybear as well. It really cleaned up the backlog of mess I had in there. I was so close to ginving up until I found this thread and gave it one last chance.
Anyone else having alarm clock issues, look no further. this does the job. Thanks for all the help.

them why didn't the patch work for me???? when it did work it would not allow the PPC to go back to sleep and when it didn't work it just wouldn't wake up. quite frankly it is bu&^sh!@!!!!! and the OEMs and Microsofts need to get it fixed. PERIOD!

I agree with you gizmox5! Microsoft does need to pull their heads out and fix it. I was about to return my alarm clock program when I got this to fix the problem and have had success since.
