Worried X5 turns off bright...turns on dim???

Good evening...

I'm on my fourth Axim X5 as of this writing:

#1 I dropped
#2 Decided that the CF and Internal flash memory wasn't needed anymore...
#3 Came shipped with the backup battery refusing to read anything but 0%

and

#4's quirk is that when I use the power button, it turns off from fll brightness, and turns on fully dimmed. I've found the control that let's me hit the power button a second time and bring it to full brightness...but how about actually turning back on at the same brightness level I turned it off at?

Is this a known issue, and is there a fix? Or am I stuck with the workaround?

Thanks in advance for your assistance, folks.

There IS a known issue where some people hold down the power button for too long... Not trying to insult your intelligence, but you're not doing that when turning it on or off?

Oh, and welcome to Aximsite, first post.

This happened to me when I "upgraded" - and I use that term loosely - to PPC 2003.

This solved it (at least, so far it has):
Start...Settings...System...Brightness... then uncheck the "Dim/light display using power button" box.

If that's not it for you then, sorry, I have no clue.

A quick press and release should power down your Ax, a slightly longer press can just dim the display.

Hi dp1don,

OK, I just encountered this problem after hard re-setting my X5 (so I could actually run my Symbol wireless drivers... grrr). I seemed to recall this happening when i first got my Axim, and having read something a long time ago in these forums about it.
After a cursory glance at the archived entries, I've found the solution to my problem, which sounds to be the same as yours.

To remedy the "dim on startup" problem, go to your brightness settings and under the "Battery Power" tab, make sure the "light the display if a button is pressed or the screen is tapped" box IS checked. You'll note that your axim powers up at the brightness you turned it off at, AND the Axim won't actually turn on if a button is pushed or the screen is tapped... which is a good thing in my opinion. I was aprehensive about applying this setting for fear of inadvertantly activating my axim and draining my battery, but after MUCH testing, my axim only turns on with the power button.

Give that a try, it worked for me.
