Mad active sync fails when i try to sync

Hey all, not sure where to put this but this seemed like the best place 2 post something like this. I have an Axim x5 basic running ppc 2k2. I dont think i have synced this one b4 except with ir to my laptop. This takes for ever and i decided to go back to the cord that i used with the axim that dell replaced (screen stopped workin for sum reason, wouldnt advise running aim on ur axim, i htink thats what caused it) Every thing runs fine up until the point where it is checking for changes. Then it acts as if the axim was pulled out and says that the axim is no longer connected. I have tried both the original active sync that came with it and the new 3.7.1. I have even tried it on both my desktop and laptop and have tried rebooting all 3, my desktop, my laptop and my axim. I have gone thru the install a couple times on each. Thanks a bunch, I just cant figure this one out.

Thats funny, im having the same problem but with an x5 advance with 2002... it started after i upgraded my rom but i noticed that if you just set up as a guest it works fine so that is how i solved my problem... but this wont allow you to sync contacts and stuff...

I used to get that intermittently. Damn frustrating. So on AS on the PC the spinning disc turns green and then very quickly goes gray with a red cross in it?

The first time it happened I did a hard reset and just installed stuff again one by one (ie, did not restore).

I still used to get it every now and then but it was considerably less common with 3.7.1.

When I did happen I do a soft reset on the PPC and try again and it normally works. If that doesn't go to Task Manager on the PC and close the AS tasks WCESMgr.exe and wcescomm.exe, restart the AS application and then try to sync and it almost ALWAYS works.

The following steps will usually work :-

In ActiveSync>File delete all partnerships.

Using a Registry Editor on the Axim go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners and delete the two folders P1 and P2.

Soft Reset the Axim.

On PC go to Documents and Settings\USER Name\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles and delete all profile folders.

Reboot the PC.

Try to Sync. Set up a new partnership. This will usually work.

If it does not, do a full backup, repeat the above procedure but Hard Reset the Axim. Then restore the backup.

All the above is courtesy of pepesr who cured the problem for me.

Instead of the Task Manager approach Howard2k suggested, get Resync and it does it for you. (Yes, I'm lazy!)

Thank you for mentioning Resync. I had not heard of it before. It seems to work perfectly well and is certainly much easier - I am lazy too !!!
