....of sounding condescending, I just don't understand how people have such a hard time with navigating a PocketPC. "Not User Friendly"? I dare suggest they can't navigate a desktop Windows computer, either. I mean, seriously...you have your Start Button. You have a File Explorer (those Resco's File Explorer is MUCH MUCH better than the stock one in a PocketPC). You have your device root directory and several primary folders, including the Windows folder.
And about organizing----just create folders that make sense. The apps in a PocketPC pretty much will find a file that goes with the program you're running wherever it is on the machine. For instance, I just now, with no previous play lists, opened up Pocket Windows Media Player. I had an SD card with two MP3 songs and one WMV video of my band. When I clicked on Playlist, then the green plus icon, it saw those three items on my SD card. All I would have to do to add them to the list would have been to check their boxes. I then stuck my 128MB CF card with nothing but MP3 files on it. I closed my Playlist screen and got back to the main Media Player window. I clicked on Playlist, then the add icon. Voila! It now sees ALL my media files, on the device, and on both external cards. No big deal. Slicker than even the desktop version is, in my opinion.
My wife had a Visor Deluxe (Palm OS) for quite a while, and she found the Axim to be MUCH better to get around in. It pretty much mimics her workstation, so it all made perfect sense to her, unlike the Visor.
I installed WMP update on my axim x5 A04, now when i load it up it says there are no skin files. whats wrong with it?
so instead i go to windows directory on axim, open the old WMP, it opens ok, i click "about" and it says it is version 8.01. huh? i cant copy and paste it onto the programs folder in the root directory.
any help is greatly appreciated. thank you

In Response to Robert "at the risk.." posting, My concern with organizing file explorer is that it contains many empty folders and I'm leary to delete them. I'd like to, but I'm concerned that there may be something in these folders that isn't viewable. Is that possible? I'm also concerned that they may be needed in future or for temorary use during different processes?
I haven't created new folders yet and won't till I get more time to sort and organize the ones I have and better understand what I can delete. I'm sure I'd be able to create them though. And, I think ovall, WM2003 is extremely user friendly, as is Windows Media Player Series 9 for that matter. I looked at Resco File Explorer and it's overkill for my needs.
Cabbagekitten, I'm not sure if I'm reading your question correctly....Is it possible that you need to update your desktop with Windows Media Player 9 Series ? If you haven't done that, that may help. You can download it from Microsoft's site. Here's a link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...es/player.aspx
Hope that's all you need to fix it.
I'm having a very similiar problem to cabbagekitten's.
When I try to run WMP on my X5, it tells me that no skin can be found.
I'm thinking about buying a SD card and using my Axim as a jukebox, but the sale ends tomorrow and this probem is driving me batty. I'm running PPC2002, so i've dl'ed and reinstalled WMP 8 for my Axim. No help. I removed the WMP upgrade. Now when i try to launch WMP it just gives me an error beep (no dialog box). The original error message was:
There are no skin files present on your device.
Either reinstall WMP or go to microsoft.com for more skins.
I checked and found default.skn under \Program Files\Windows Media Player on my axim.
Perhaps I shouldn't even try to use my Axim as a music player at all. Has anyone else tried and had it work seamlessly? My biggest disappointment with my Axim is with the software. Just because the axim is capable of something doesn't mean that it does it well. I've had the same problem with WMP (back when it worked). you had to leave it on but couldn't 'keylock' the unit or use the hardware keys to operate the player. It's the opposite of intuitive. Perhaps these things are fixed on PPC03 <sigh>.
Anyway, sorry to bitch. No friends have a PPC so this stuff has been pent up for a few months now.
