My Axim X5 is hosed...

Almost a year ago I dropped my Axim X5 300Mhz (I had only owned it for about 1.5 months). The unit still powers on and synchronizes, but the right half of the screen is completely white - nothing displays except white. The left half of the display is fine, allowing me to see all elements of the unit's display (at least the left half). After a disappionting phone call to Dell (no drop coverage was offered at that time), I gave up on the unit.

Since then, I have tried opening the unit to see if I could look inside (being a computer tech) and find something that had come loose, but I have been unable to open it. My question is, does anyone know how to open the X5 to take a look inside? Or perhaps some Axim gurus on the site would know how to fix such a thing?

Here's what I have done so far, just for reference:
1. Soft Reset
2. Hard Reset
3. Remove both batteries for several days

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you locate the screws under the rubber pads?

Screws?

I found the small screws under the main battery, but not the rubber pads - are you referring to the pads on the sides of the unit, or the pads in the corners? I don't have the unit in front of me (I'm at work), so I can't verify at this moment, sorry.

Thanks, I'll check it out!

Spikes,

The tutorial on this site for enhancing the DPAD has diagrams and instructions for how to dissasemble the Axim.... there was a link to it on the front page last time I looked.

Good luck! Remember, even if you can't get it fixed there is a pretty good market for broken Axims around here ;)

No luck...

Unfortunately, I've had no luck. I was able to get the unit disassembled (thanks all!), but I believe the drop simply damaged the screen internally beyond repair. I guess I'll have to see what kind of price I can get (or trade) for my broken Axim. Thanks for the help!
