I had some problems but after I got used to the configuration, they all went away. I connect to two networks, both using WEP and 120 bit encription. One thing to remember is once you set up your network profile and SSID, it also saves your encription settings in the profile. You cannot change the settings on the fly since it will remember them or create a new profile. (Very confusing)

Something else I noticed is if you manually input an alpha wep key and hit apply and ok, the next time you view the encription in the profile the key is changed to hex but still works. (Also very confusing)

I hope this helps.

Hi all,

I too am having problems with my WCF12 card. I swear its the card itself. Every other CF card I have works fine in my Axim. I have been waiting a week for Linksys support to call me back about this and plan on calling them back today.

If I push REALLY hard on the card, I get a signal. As soon as I let go, I loose it. Sounds like tolerances on the connector aren't in spec. Now the hard part is proving who is at fault. I'm going to guess Linksys as my other CF cards work just fine...

Anyone have a suggestion on how to persue this? :(

I have been running a wireless network at home for some time now ( all Linksys gear ) and WCF12 was the latest add-on. I have to say all worked like a charm the first time around. I did, however, notice some strange config issues as well as a reception singal strength issue. Here they are, as observed:

Couldn't change the existing WEP 128-bit password
Resolution: Had to set the WEP to Disabled, save to AP, then set the password of choice again with the 128-bit WEP enabled

Couldn't lock onto the AP signal ( on my Axim only, the rest of the network is fine )
Resolution: Had to reset my Axim couple of times. This is strange, but it worked

Signal lost when central heating turnes on!!!
Resolution: This is truly a weird one. I was sitting on the floor, next to my gas-forced air vent. When the heat came on, the WCF12 light started to blink as it lost the signal to the AP. The rest of the network was fine. I moved away from the vent and Axim re-acquired the signal without a problem. Go figure.

All-in-all, the Axim/Linksys combo workes beautifully, at least for me. I don't know when was the last time I used the cradle to sync up my stuff. Like anything else in the computing world, darn things either work or they give you a hell of a time.

Hi Folks,

I had posted a few posts back about my WCF12 failing...

After a week of torture on the phone with Linksys, they have agreed to replace my WCF12 card. After getting off the phone with them yesterday, I decided to "play" around with the card and I took a GOOD look at the card under a microscope and noticed that the card itself was warped. The part that inserts into the CF slot was warped in relation to the Antenna part that sticks up out of the slot.

Then I proceeded to insert the card and I twisted/pushed hard on it and guess what, it worked! As soon as I released pressure, the link light went off and the card died. Tried again, and as long as I kept a twisting/pushing pressure on the antenna part, the card worked.

This is similar to what others have mentioned in the past when they have had issues.

So my guess is that the tolerances on the WCF12 were slightly out of spec (too wide) and when you insert the card (remember, its a tight fit!), it eventually warps the card and probably screws up the internal connections/wiring.

I will let everyone know how the replacement works out. If its a snug fit again, I bet I get the same failures. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they have resolved the issue.

OK, this thread is getting scary...

Could the heating cause the WCF12 to 'warp' like what Trossi discovered?

I'm getting real paranoid with the WCF12 now, since I pull out the card when I don't use it (to save battery), I'm afraid this constant swapping will 'warp' the card eventually... I think we should start a poll to see how many % of the WCF12 owners actually can get this card to work flawlessly, and how many are having this 'transient signal' problem.

I have now tried two different WCF12 cards and two different Axims. I have concluded that it is the WCF12 card without a doubt. I have returned my WCF12 card and am looking for a good deal on a D-Link or a Netgear card. I'm even considering forgoing the wireless card in favour of some other accessory. I found the Web browsing painful on the small screen and the network access of limited value. Also, WMP is hopeless at streaming audio. <_<

Hi all,

Got my replacement WCF12 the other day (this was to replace a new WCF12 that all of a sudden decided not to work after about 2 weeks of use).

The replacement WCF12 fits MUCH better than the one I had. Not as snug (which is good).

Its been working like a charm so far, and I will report back if this one craps out too.
