Offical DELL CD Only?
Hi People,
My question is do I need an official DELL CD to install active sync, as I am having great problems doing so, I read in other posts about anti virus software, Which I uninstalled with still no luck.
I have tired to different versions of active sync, each time it seems to install temp files somwhere, then never actually gets into the Installation Wizzard, Is this a common problem that can be fixed easily. The only other thing which I read was about XP being an upgrade from ME, not a fresh install. I do have an upgrade on my machine, is it likley to be that?
Is there any other software you can use, as I am currently having to do it all via infa red to my PC, Which is very slow.
Anyones help on this would be great
Thanks!

To answer your first question, no, you do not need the official Dell CD to install activesync. You can download the lastest version from Microsoft. You say you are currently syncing via infrared, which leads me to believe that you have activesync installed, or are you just using infrared to copy files to your Axim?

ActiveSync woes
I found with a friend's Dell computer, and their brand new X3, that ActiveSync wouldn't install properly while McAfee anti-virus was installed. I don't mean just running. I mean, even with McAfee turned off AS still wouldn't load correctly. However, once McAfee was completely uninstalled, it all went in easy as pie, and then McAfee was re-installed. So, check your firewall (if you're running one) and check your anti-virus (if you're running one).

I am just uising the infa red to load to axim yes, Active sync is in program files but only has one DLL file in it, also nothing is in start programs, so im certain its not installed yet, and some reason wont install either.....

I tried it with NORTON uninstalled...but still have AVG, but that never running, so you recommend I uninstall BOTH NAV and AVG, also I am connected to a router which has a NAT firewall, will that make a difference?
Many thanks
