256 Cf Audio Problems
Hi. This axim has frustrated me for what I use it primarily for - mp3s. I had a CF and SD card stuffed with music.
I had a 128CF generic CF card and it played mp3/wma fine. I went through the whole Sandisk SD card problem and got a replacement card. It works pretty decently for audio. I recently bought a 256 Viking compact flash card. It doesn't play 96kbps wma encoded files. What happens has been described by others on http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...threadid=11088 Basically I have the similar problem. When I play 96kbps wma encoded songs from my CF ONLY, it plays for less than 30 seconds before the music stops, while the timer moves for a few more seconds, then I get a playtime of 37:16:59. There is a pause for about a minute before wmp9(and other audio players) moves on to the next track. The problem repeats itself for each track. I copy this exact file to the internal memory, and it plays fine. I also copy it to the SD card and playback is fine. The file also plays fine on my PC. I bought another 256 Sandisk compact flash card and the same thing happens. To get around this problem, I use 192kbps mp3s and playback is uninterrupted. HOWEVER, there are random scrambled sounds during the song, like hitch sounds. Im not sure how to describe it, but it sounds like a corrupt mp3. Im currently testing 96kbps mp3 files and it seems that playback is uninterrupted, but there are random scrambled sounds. It appears to me that my axim, for whatever reason, cannot play wma encoded songs, or properly play mp3 encoded songs from my 256 compact flash card/slot. I don't know what is wrong. I never had this problem with my 128MB CF card (2+ years old) but I think that card will still play my 96kbps wma/mp3 without a problem. I wanted more songs and was willing to give up the bitrates, but this problem has already forced me to go through 2 256 CF cards, and I'm still not getting the results. I do not think it is the CF problem, but it could be. Things that I have tried but has not worked: I have tried reformatting my 256 CF cards under different cluster sizes. I have also tried other mp3 players, such as PocketMusic and PocketPlayer, with the same problem. It seems to me that this is a Dell Axim issue with 256 CF cards. I don't understand why the 128 CF card works and the 256 ones do not. I also do not understand why if i move the "corrupt" files to either my PC, the PPC internal memory, or SD card, they all play fine. I am using the Dell Axim X5 A05 ROM, running PPC2003. If anyone here has these problems, or knows of any solution, please let me know. Thanks ![]() | |||
