Mad Touchscreen is misaligned :(

I've had my Axim for 14 months, and I've probably used my 300+ charges of the Lithium Ion battery. It still holds for 5-6 hours instead of the original 7-8, but the problem is that the touchscreen gets misaligned after it's been off the charger for 2 hours!

I press the top of the screen, and it hits the middle of the screen somewhere. RARR! That means I can't hit the Start bar, can't close items, etc. A hard reset fixes this for another 2 hours, but darned if I'll do this all the time. Since I have a 1 year warranty, I can't send it in for free anymore.

Should I give up on this problem and toss it?

EDIT: I've never used a screen protector, so that isn't it

Running the screen alignment manually should at least save you a hardreset.

Start - Settings - Screen - "Align Screen"

You should be able to use the buttons to get to
the alignment if the alignment is so outa wack
that you cant get to it w/ stylus.

If all else fails, since your warranty is up- you
could take it appart and fiddle with it... and put
it back together... you could either end up fixing
it.... or you could end up with a dead ax all together....

1) I can't reach the start button due to the screen being misaligned! I press it, but the cursor hits about 1 inch lower, so I can't access anything in the Start menu to manually realign it

2) Soft reset doesn't work

Someone told me to call Dell and raise he|| about it failing just outside of warranty period, then maybe they would fix it if i bought another warranty. Ideas?

If you press the scroll thing on the side in and the power button it will open up the screen alignment thing, that might help. Other than that, you will need to get a new axim, something similar happend to me, TWICE! I got refurbished ones cuz my warrenty was out but they were as good as new! Dell does a really good job on their refurbs. Dont know if i posted this in time

I have got some problems about tapping on my Axim screen for a month.

Problems:

- The screen dose not respond properly (e.g. tap on the 'x' at the top right conner, but the "text input area" at the buttom left conner is activated).

- Fail to do screen alignment after a hard reset.

Cause of the problems:

- Deformation of the outer frame of Axim due to temperature changing. This makes an abnormal pressing on the rim of the screen, which causes the screen does not respond properly.

Procedure of a Solution:

- Remove two rubber feet at the top left and top right on the back of Axim.
- Adjust two screws under the rubbers feet. Actually, a little bit loosen the screws will reduce deformation of the frame. And, the touch screen will respond properly again.

Good luck everyone,

Rawichote.

It's funny I ran upon this thread...I just got like my 5th or 6th axim today...I lost count...but most of them if not all(I know the last one did)had that problem. My warranty expires in about a month.I feel that the screen breaking down is a serious hardware problem with the axim. This should be something that Dell should fix on all axims, regardless of warranties. I know the only way to go about this would be a class action suit...or to be just plain lucky....I really don't have too many other problems with the axim, and from reading threads from this site I see that it is something that happens to almost all axim owners...I am very curious of what others might think.
Success is not measured by what one brings, but rather by what one leaves.

have you found a pattern with what you were doing before it messed up? I got two ones that i thought werent working and it turned out that i was installing a bogus program, which had malicious code in it. I would check if i were you

I'm having this problem now I click the (X) at the top right and the bottom text keyboad pops up, however i did a backup on my data, did a restart on the whole system, take out both batterys, reloaded my info and tada no more misalignment issues so far. So it looks like I had a software problem.

when I first got mine about 11 months ago, the screen came deformed, of course it was remanufactured, you can solve it by sliding a peice of felt or rubber down underneath the bottom end between the case and screen, just be sure not to slide it far enough in to effect the d-pad

i'm having this problem too.. i wrote an e-mail to dell asking about it, hoping maybe they'd fix it for me

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Dell eSupport and Services (ESS). We appreciate
the opportunity to assist you. I apologize for your trouble and I assure
you it is our hope that you have a positive experience with our company.

As per the issue, please soft reset the device. For the instructions on
the same, I am recommending a knowledgebase article.

Please visit the following link to access the article that I wish to
forward to you:

http://support.dell.com/us/en/kb/doc...asp?dn=1077816

Some email programs will wrap this address to a second line. Therefore,
please copy each of the lines directly into the address bar of your
browser with no spaces between the two sections.

Also if still the issue persists, please hard reset the device. For
that, I am recommending a knowledgebase article.

Please visit the following link to access the article that I wish to
forward to you:

http://support.dell.com/us/en/kb/doc...asp?dn=1073114

Some email programs will wrap this address to a second line. Therefore,
please copy each of the lines directly into the address bar of your
browser with no spaces between the two sections.

Performing these steps should resolve the issue with the system. However
if still the issue persists, then you need to buy the new Axim Unit as
the unit is already out of warrenty so I won't be able to log the call
for the replacement of the same.

My apologies for the inconvinience and thanks for your patience.

I again apologize for the time and inconvinience.

Thank you for choosing Dell.
what f*cking bullsh*t, i did nothing wrong, and got this piece of crap product that's faulty and it's their fault and they refuse to fix it or replace it. bull...

btw i tried the solution above, loosened the screws and didn't fix my problem.

my problem has a little bit more to it, so i'll make a new thread

I had similar problem, tried everything but could not solve this problem. This problem would happen with any touch screen if there were a dirt particle stuck on the screen. Tried to clean the screen with a damp cloth it still does not work open the axim as per instructions on this site. http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2...axim_takeapart
Clean the screen thoroughly and same time press all the contacts. It worked for me and hope it will work for you.
