X5 turns on after removal from synch cradle

I've been a site member for a while and have learned a lot from all of you -- thanks!

One more thing. My early Axim X5 the 400mhz one, with now AO4, has almost always turned itself back on after I have removed it from the cradle and turned it off. It usually comes back on after a minute or so and then will stay off after I turn it off again.

The buttons are set to not turn the machine on, and it is set to turn itself off after 3 minutes on battery power. The problem is, it doesn't always work. I had not used the machine all weekend and this morning it was dead. The backup battery was also dead and the data was gone. I was able to get it back, including downloaded programs, through a lot of hassle but quite frankly this shouldn't happen.

I was on the phone to Dell today, and while courteous, they danced around this one. Any ideas?

Thanks

Martin

Yes this happens to me and there was a post last year on that but no solution. After you remove it from the cradle it turns on again. No need to worry, leave it alone and it will just turn off by itself in a minute or two.

MJHampton, I have the same problem. It started doing this after I upgraded to A03. I have found no explanation or cure. Since I now expect the problem I simply let it happen and shut it off again.

If you use a notification manager app like the one available in in PHM Power Toys you will see a reappearing notification set up by 'conmgr.exe'. It pops up about every 5 minutes and I believe this is the errant function causing the X5 to turn on after removal from the cradle.

I think this was created by a preference I set in Inbox where I had it connect and check email every 5 minutes while cradled. I have since shut down the automatic email retrieval, but I think the conmgr app is what wakes up the device after removal from the cradle.

Thanks

Thanks guys. I didn't think I could be the only one with the problem. Normally, I catch the little beast in an "on" state and switch it off but three times now I have lost all data when it stayed on awake in its zipper case over a weekend of non use.

Really I think turning it off and keeping it off should be simple. I was just looking for a possible cure.

Don't see the deal

I guess I don't see the problem. My iPaq 3630 did the same thing. In fact, on both my iPaq and my X5 Advanced if I change anything about it's status (connect/disconnect cradle, usb, keyboard, etc.) the unit wakes up.

Never bothered me in the least. In fact, in most cases that's precisely what I WANT it to do. I guess one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Wellll

Turning on is not a problem. The "deal" is not turning off while zipped up in a case - even though set to do so after three minutes - and losing all the data. To me, that's a bit more than a "deal."

Thanks for understanding the problem.
