Question New computer - how do I transfer stuff?

I've got a new computer and want to run my Axim stuff off this new desktop instead of my laptop.

I'm wondering how difficult it is going to be? I know I need to load the ActiveSync software. Then what?

I'm not worried so much about my contacts, I know I can transfer those. Do I need to download and reinstall all the programs I am running?

Thanks.
Wes

Run your programs and info on both PC's, I sync mine to my desk top, then sync to my laptop as only sync to computer just to update my lap top. That way if you have a crash on one PC your covered on the other

Can I just run the info on the new computer, but not the programs? Can I keep the programs on the laptop only?

If you have problems with software installed on the Axim, you may need to reinstall. To do that, you usually first have to install on your PC in order to transfer to the Axim. So your best bet is to transfer the software to the new PC.
Anything you have in Outlook (Contacts, Calendar entries, etc) can be synched between the axim and new PC. You won't need to re-add everything to the new PC. Just need to install Outlook. Outlook should be on the disk that came with the Axim.

There are software programs that 'help' transfer files from one PC to another. The 'big' but, that they don't mention upfront is that you first have to install the base software on the new machine. So, if you lost the disk/cd/whatever for the original software, you're out of luck.

That's correct. Just install Activesync and Outlook on the new computer and the PIM info on the Axim will be sync'ed on the new computer. If you have any PPC related software on your old computer it is easier to just install on the new computer. If that software also installs to the PPC then it will just reinstall over the software already there.
