Exclamation Used battery to last bit, configuration is gone...

Hi everyone,

I have huge troubles with my Axim X5. I could not charge the battery for three weeks, so I used it until the last bit of energy was gone. When I finally got back home, I put it into the cradle and recharged it. Turning it on, I got the blank site telling me that the Pocket PC needs to be reconfigured. I tried to do so, but I cannot move beyond the "align screen" site. I have been tapping the screen for at least ten minutes but nothing happens.

Does anyone have an idea what I could do? I still have all my data on my laptop, but the active sync on the laptop does not recognize my Pocket PC anymore.

Thanks to everyone for insights.
Mark

Is anything under the screen edge? Screen protector, bit of dirt/paper/dust? If it is pressing on the screen then it sees a constant input and cannot align.

BTW, you can expect that all your data is gone, unless you have a backup.

There is no dirt or paper in the edges

Hey,

no there is not paper or dirt in the edges. I have cleaned the screen now but I still cannot go beyond the "align screen"-function.

Any more ideas what I could do?

Are you sure that all my data will be erased? I thought it is no problem using the battery power till the very end....

Thanks for further comments/ suggestions.

Do you have a screen protector? Is the frame itself pushing on the screen?

If you got the start up page, then it means the Axim did a hard reset (which happens whenever there is no power to the memory). Any data on an sd or CF memory card will still be there but the operating system will look just like it did when you received it. No programs which you installed and no personal data.

And you thought wrong. The backup battery will keep the data for a short time so that you can change batteries but three weeks is well outside it's typical survival time.

Since the data is gone anyway, I think your best option is to do another hard reset, but I'd wait until the main battery has completely recharged (turn it off and leave it on the charger for a couple of hours or even overnight.)
