Axim screen replacement!!!

Well, we all hope to NEVER have to need it, BUT... I saw on teh Dell forum that there is now an option to repair a cracked screen on the Axim.
Not from Dell tho... Here's the message

We have finally sourced replacement LCD & Touchscreen assemblies for the Dell Axim X5 and have them in stock.

If you decide that the repair cost outweighs the benefit of the unit, we would also be interested in purchasing the damaged unit as-is.

Best Regards,

Leonard

A little spendy, but less than the IPaq is to repair, and less than buying a new Axim. And at least there is an option now!!!

A lot time ago!

Well along time ago when I was waiting patiently I was reading on the dell forums that a guy that was like 6 foot had his axim in his shirt pocket. You could guess this one, it fell out about 5 feet he said and hit the concrete!!!!! But he said it was fine everything was working and was fine except a few scratches were it hit!

The screen on my well cared for AXIM cracked. There was no damage to the case and I had not dropped it. I just took it out of the case and the screen was a goner. Lucky for me Dell replaced it and I now keep a hard cover over the screen.

Sorry I just can't see the $149.99

OK I know that they install it for you but you still have the shipping costs and it is no longer covered by Dell since it was repaired.

My point, if it is a damaged 300 MHZ machine, that is a given, buy another unit, sell your battery, stylus, cradle/cable, power supply etc on ebay or something.

If it is a 400 MHz unit, at $149, I would be willing to do the work myself. Again, order a 300 MHz unit. Sell the accessories that came with the original unit etc. You still have the case, buttons, CF dummy slot etc...

Here is my guessing
$15 for power supply
$35 for battery
$5 for stylus since so far only Dell Stylus work with this
$10 USB cable
$65 total taken from the $199 after rebate cost, its still $135 for a screen and you still have a new case once it gets scratched etc, or a button board for after you finish mashing the hell out of it playing games, a second lower port etc..

Just IMHO

Here is the disassembly link:
