Hmm X5 disconnecting after a while

I have a X5 with Pocket PC 2003. It is an upgrade from Pocket PC 2002. Everything else is working fine. The only thing that I notice is that the sync disconnects after doing well for a couple of hours for no apparent reason. Needs me to unhook the unit and then reattach before sync is resumed. Anyone has any idea what is going on?

Don't know what's causing your problem, but when you want to reconnect, you can simply turn your Axim off and then turn it back on. Much less hassle than having to uncradle and recradle it.

I am having the same trouble. Again, it is an X5 that was upgraded to WM2003. Before the upgrade this never happened, now it happens two or three times a day with no apparent predictors before it happens.

I tried changing the display setting earlier today from dimming after 1 minute while in the cradle to staying on all the time it is in the cradle. Since that time, about 6 hours ago, it has not disconnected once. I wonder if that has something to do with it? Do you have your power settings set to dim the display while connected to the cradle?

I had the same exact problem as you and did the same fix. Now it stays connected all day and I have not had a problem in months. The manual says that with the display on all the time it takes longer to charge, but for me it sits in the cradle all day anyway.

I have that feature disabled currently. I am thinking that maybe there is a timeout on XP or something. But the problem is so inconsistent its hard to pinpoint.

I am using Windows 2000, so if it is an XP problem it is also a Win2000 problem.

Hmm

I have a Dell Axim X5 that was not upgraded after purchase. It had 2003 from the beginning. My internet connection is sporadic and annoying. ActiveSync will still be "active", but I can't get anywhere on the internet. (The computer can still get places, but not the X5.) Also, the ActiveSync will shut down sporadically. I've tried all the above suggestions, but my Axim X5 still has the problem.

Is there a reason for this? Is Dell aware of this problem? Does it care? (Probably not.)

Thanks for all the suggestions for possible solutions.

Respectfully,

Forensics :crooked:

dont wreck our thread by changing the subject! ;)
OK, back on topic. the Axim will timeout after 3-5 minutes but sometimes the problem doesn't happen. What is different that I noticed is that I have synced (data has actually changed) and I stay active. If just plugging in and no changes are synced then I see the problem happen.

I have not had problems with my Axim turning off. I have it set to stay on and stay bright (no dimming) when on external power.
Perhaps try setting all the power saving settings to not dim and not turn the Axim off and see if that makes a difference.

---Forensics. Is your question more about internet browsing while connects to you PC via Active Sync? You might want to create a new thread about that. There have been several threads about that exact issue (I have browsing problems while connected via active sync, too), search around an little and you might get a little help.

So much for turning off the auto dimming on external power. ActiveSync has disconnected three times in the past five minutes. Cycling the Ax off and on while it was in the cradle re-establishes the connection, but it pops up ActiveSync over all of my desktop applications whenever I reconnect.

What an aggravation.
