X5 audio hiss

So, I've got an X5 that thas quite audible hiss while playing MP3s.
I've gotten dell to send 2 replacement units over the last month, both have the same problem.

Does anyone have an X5 that doesn't hiss? I should just ignore it, but it really bothers me.

Dave

My X5 has no trace of hiss whatever. I use 96kbps WMA files and Windows Media Player or PocketMusic. The quality is excellent.

It seems to me that mostly all Axim's with WM2003 pre-installed have this hiss problems... I believe more people have it but do not reconize it...not talking about you davrol

I have a refurb X5 that came with WM2003 pre-installed. No hiss even during quiet moments in classical music files. I have noticed RF interference hiss using some attached devices. I suspect the RF is coming from the screen. Someone suggested turning down the screen brightness. I haven't tried this but it's worth a shot. Moving the attached devices away from the screen worked for me.

X5 with WM2003, MP3s and Windows Media Player 9

No background hiss during play...in fact, sound quality seems excellent at all volume levels

My X5 is now a year old. It came with PPC 2002 A0 OS which I have upgraded to A04.

I would have thought it unlikely that the OS could be the cause of the hissing, which is more likely to be a harware problem. Naturally X5s with WM 2003 pre-installed must be later models. It could be that Dell changed to a diferent audio chip at more or less the same time, using the same chip as is in the X3s, all or most of which seem to ahve the hiss problem.

I just bought-in to the new PocketMusic 3.0 which makes my tunes sound like they came off an old 33.3 vinyl record... WMplayer is fine, though.

Haven't contacted the PocketMusic support folks yet.

I have exactly the same problem. Mine X5 was an upgrade from ppc 2002 to 2003. when playing MP3 either from PocketMusic 3 or Media Player, they have hissing problem. I took the card to my wife's ASUS A620 and it plays fine.

The hissing problem will go away after I play the music for 5~10 minutes. But it does come back when I re-start the unit.

It sucks big time on the hissing problem

My Axim has a hiss issue thats is really annoying while using headphones (I have tested all my headphones, same problem so it must be the axim). It came with WM2003 installed and All I ever use if the WMP.

I tried that audio driver update and now it only hisses sometimes. Also my Dell Ispiron 1100 has an audio his on headphones as well. Maybe its just dell :crooked:

They are still kick azz products though.
