We folks what can I say!!
I use the ir port almost daily with co workers, who have a variety of palms and pocket pc's, and I have nothing but problems. I am an ex-palmIIIxe and sony clie user which there ir works just fine.
I called tech support to find out what was going on, and after about 5 transfers to other locations, 3 support people I couldnt understand and 2.5hrs on the phone I was told that nothing was wrong with my axim.
Customer support directed me to an enhancement application called "peacemaker" which was suppose to enhance the ir capability and to make it more understanble to the palm platforms. Well needless to say that the 15day TRIAL of peace maker didnt work, and if it did work Dell expected me to by the full version of it?
I'm hoping that dell will come out with a fix/patch to help with the ir problems
