X5 Sreen Taps Unrecognized

I am starting to get real concerned about my 2 Dell Axim X5's. From an appearence and functionality standpoint I love the X5 from a performance and issues standpaoint I am getting concerned with all the problems I am seeing.

Multiple times on both X5's they have stopped recognizing certain taps. Whether it's contacts, notes, tasks, etc. It will just stop reacting to one of them.

Then today, one of the X5's stopped recognizing taps altogether. All I did was change batteries and it stopped. I tried a soft reset which normally fixes the first tap issue I discribed above. I tried everything, then I decided to search the net for similar issues with X5's and to my surprize there were many people out there with this problem.

Most stated Dell would not recognize the problem or repair it. I was unable to get the X5 to work so I tried the various solutions they recommended, some from Dell some from other sources.

I did not want to hard reset because I would lose all the work and e-mail I had entered today. Eventually I got a screen that said touch here to erase all data, touch here to cancel and there was no way out of it.

I might have pressed a combination of buttons that hard reset the unit because I lost everything. Not a horror, I back up everyday, but I lost a tone of work I did today and if this is going to happen often I will have to stop using Dell. I would hate to do that since I have 2 expensive cases, 4 batteries, two cradles, you get the picture.

Anyone know what causes these problems is there anything I can do to prevent/repair them? Thanks.

Are you using a screen protector on your Axims? If so, it is possible for the edge of the screen protector to get under the edge of the screen and wreak havoc with the touch screen.

Re: screen taps

Ok I just talked to Dell, I was having the same problems. I was supprised that their solution worked. They told me to get a business card and slide it around the edges of the screen. It worked. I guess it gets really dirty and causes that problem.
Thanks and I hope it helps you too.
