I beat dell's bad quality control!

mwahahah... I had a 300mhz rev A05 axim that had a defective right button... so they sent me a rev A06 that had a good d-pad, but the screen was not as bright and had lines in it... I was really annoyed, then I saw the thread about taking apart an axim on this site... So I went hog wild and disassembled both and put my old screen on the replacement axim... So I finallly have one that's the best of both worlds... yay! Just thought I'd share...

I'm pretty good at taking apart my axim now... And I think I'm ready for surgery... ^_^

that's awesome. Screw Dell support since it's pretty much nonexistence.

I hope you can return the "broken one" now that you have opened it up.

It would suck if they detected it and you had to keep both of them.

Both of them work flawlessly... except for the one I'm returning which has a mushy right button... I didn't see anything that would have made the disassembly easily detectable... infact, the one I'm returning has no cosmetic blemishes of any kind... so I don't think so. But hey, maybe they go over it with a fine tooth comb... or maybe they test it and see that it works perfectly (to them and consider me a whiner for my whining about the right button and repackage it...

BTW My complaints were the new screen was greener in appearance and a bit dimmer then my old axim's screen and you could more easily see the scan lines when you moved it...

Lucky they don't use those stinky tamper-proof stickers on the Ax... otherwise you'd be stuck with 1 good Ax and a not so good Ax... both less warranty ;)

Congrats on your new 'perfect' Ax =)

Cheers.

You are my perfect example of the screen issue. My point is that someone can do the work themselves.

I think that $149.00 for replacement digitizer and LCD is too high. Buying the standard unit 300MHz, and scraping out the display and replacing it in the 400MHz is the way to go. yeah you spend $50 more, but now you have a replacement button board, extra battery, charger, stylus, cable etc.. Sell it on eBay or keep it as 'extra' stuff. More stuff is always good isn't it?

I don't think the button board is easily replaced...

I agree with the rest... disassembly and attachment were fairly simple if you are patient and careful.

you do get an extra battery, extra dell case, extra charger, extra stylus, and new axim casing (incase your scratched up your old one)
The board would be a backup axim incase you managed to destroy your old board...

AAhh.. I thought it was modular since it was the interactive portion of the PC Boards.

In the words of Roseann Roseanna Dana... NEVERMIND
